Do you like musous?

I only just got into them and have been playing Dynasty Warriors 8 and want to try more of them.

While Pirate Warriors 4 is the closest one to actually have decent gameplay, musous are still inherently trash and only worth it if you are a fan.

Sengoku Basara is worth playing just for the gameplay, not DW trash yet, though.

It's really solid but not worth the full price. Wait for it to go on sale, the story mode is really barebones, and the Treasure Log (Extra Missions) is super basic.

comes down to if you like musuos. 3 and 4 are "good" musous.

read one piece

It's not even a good musou it's just that One Piece fans are this desperate for a half decent game. Both Berserk and Gundam musous were much better

Why are musous inherently trash?

It boils down to button mashing. It's only worth it to see the cool moves which you will not appreciate if you're not a fan of the source material.

By that logic wouldn't DMC and Ninja Gaiden 2 also be inherently trash games?

they're not button mashing

I tried to give wan piss a chance and read it up to where it was supposed to get good. Well, it didn't.

it's not for everyone

3 isn't good, 4 is though.

They are repetitive and offer no challenge and they don't have anything else supporting them like a good story, good graphics, or .. anything really.

PW4 is on the road to being good though because it's got a fast paced combo system emerging so at least the gameplay is fun now instead of slow as fuck and shallow.

Yes they are. They've got more depth though and they're faster paced.

Almost no musou is worth it unless you like the source material

The only I actually think might be worth it if you like the genre, even if you don't care about the source is Hyrule Warriors

Ahem

Pirate Warriors 4 is my favorite musou game. One Piece's bizarre characters and their weird abilities lend themselves perfectly to musou combat. The movesets of the characters are really diverse because of it. A lot more engaging than "guy with sword, guy with spear, guy with staff, guy with different sword". All of the characters in Pirate Warriors do really crazy shit.

you don't realize it but this looks extremely bad

Like all musous, it requires you to have a lobotomy before playing them.

No, musous are only good for their fanservice. If you don't know shit about the source material you're not gonna derive any excitement from seeing the matchups and special moves and whatnot and otherwise the games are just fodder management simulators.

your memes are outdated with this game

give it a pirate, it's not bad

Only real issue is how short it is. Otherwise its solid as fuck.

In what way?

it actually gets WORSE if you know how musous play because while these combos might've been impressive with actual commands behind them it's just pressing one of two buttons with the occasional dodge cancel. Not only that, but it even manages to look stilted and lacking impact.

So it doesn't cover entire story? From where does it start?

Wasn't Hyrule Warriors the "one good musou" in its day? It's not like Zelda fans were starved for even a half decent game, and from what I can tell Pirate Warriors 4 is getting similar praise.

It's Dynasty Warriors with pirates and wackier

Starts at Alabasta and skips arcs here to there. To be fair, they make up for it by basing more maps around those arcs, but others like Sabaody have one they use over and over a few times. I guess 3 at least was able to cover a bit more with its story, even if it mostly glossed over arcs.

Who knows if they'll add more maps going forward or not.

Nah, just nintendo derangement syndrome. They'll praise any old shit, remember how they praised WiiU at the time and now they laugh at it

It only covers Alabasta, Enies Lobby, Marineford, Dressrosa, Whole Cake Island and Wano.

3 does cover it from the beginning, although in a VERY general way, it doesn't go into many details. Consider One Piece has about 20 sagas, 4 starts on arc 17.
