What RPG has the best "party members acting like actual friends?"

Most of the Persona and Final Fantasy Games do this, it's just a matter of whether you want them to become friends over the course of the game, or be friends at the start of the game.

this + cinema spectacle are the two things modern ff focuses on almost exclusively

Havent played 1 and 2, just the normie trilogy of persona games, but 5 really bugged me with how everyone was exclusively your friend. Morgana is a dick to Ryuji, Yusuke has a hint of chemistry with Ryuji but mostly doesn’t care about anyone else in the group, Makoto has a reason to be your ally I guess but she never really interacts with anyone else at all, etc etc. In 4, half your party already knew each other before you even show up, Kanji meets Naoto before you do, Yosuke is a big Risette fan, Yukiko’s shadow only directly addresses Chie’s existence, and so on. Plus, group outings (Yosuke and the sports teams, Chile and Nanako, etc) on social links were way more common in 4, which makes sense because in 5, they hardly ever even try dynamics outside of “the MC and villain with the party member of the week”.

However the world is complete shit right now, like way more than usual, so even i have gone back to this kind of games, i reccomend you play some old Harvest moon games(the new ones made by natsume are shit), rune factory or story of seasons also the devil survivor games

Persona 3: They were basically a bunch of 'who all had the same power, so they got together to help save people, they were more like co-workers. They never really hung out as "Friends" and when they did hang out, it was seen as more of like time off work.
Persona 5: Ann, Ryuji, and the Protagonist were mates, the others just tagged along due to circumstance.

It's a problem the series has had after 3. Everything is always about you, the MC. While the games become better at being video games I feel like everything else is starting to suffer. The writing, characters, scenarios, etc. either feel weaker or less interesting and dynamic.

in 3, any personal problems had to be delt with personally.
Whereas in 4, every character has their own "Shadow" which they kill to get over their problems.
or in 5, they, or someone they know, is the cause of their problems, and destroying their palace fixes everything.
It's sort of a cop-out.

4's a little different in that Chie is the fulcrum of the early friend group, being friends with both Yukiko and Yosuke. To 5's credit, though, the initial band of Ryuji/Ann/MC feels very tight-knit, with Ryuji & Ann feeling like genuine friends, and Yusuke also slots in very organically.

I felt Xenoblade Chronicles had a very good dynamic within the party.
