There IS voice acting, but it is only in the majorly important cutscenes. You may want to wait until later this summer for the 5.3 release because the initial ARR story quests is being trimmed down. It is long and boring as fuck.

It's a solid game overall and after the initial content has the best singleplayer experience/story out there, but for most of the people I know it's really that it's the only MMO out there that looks nice and has attractive characters but isn't a Chinese pay to win microtransaction nightmare.

The whole game before the first expansion is pretty mediocre. It really picks up once you get to HS.

I’m 100’s of hours in and playing Stormblood right now, and I’m still getting these goddamn emote cutscenes. People call this the best fucking Final Fantasy when its story and presentation is worse than fucking XIII. At least in XIII I never felt they were half assing it, they were full assing something retarded.

I'm playing it right now, but honestly, I can't put my finger on it. I feel like it's a pretty good MMO, the characters in the story are quite likeable and it tugs your emotional strings every now and then. It starts off pretty slowly, I skipped most of the story until I was like lvl 35. It's the same gameplaywise. I also enjoy the armor design so I'm fun grinding items for looks and making outfits. I'm a WoW refugee though and I've been playing pretty much my entire life so I probably don't noice half the flaws a newcomer might see. I think it's a solid game though, definitely worth checking out since the free play period is quite generous.

Not really, that sounds like a you problem. Almost every cutscene is voices except a few and if that completely ruins a good story because of a pet peeve then that is on you.

The game is fine as long as you pretend you're the only person in it. The community is universally awful, the world is split up into tiny instanced zones (this gets marginally better in the expansions) and the itemization is generally nonexistent.

You're basically buying a single-player JRPG with a decent story that other retards fund for you. If you're smart about it, by using the free logins periods, you can do all story content and side stuff like alliance raids and trials and only ever pay for the expansions.
