What is the best handheld to get right now?

Obvious Switch

3DS/2DS is straight up the best value in gaming as a whole if you know why you're buying it (SMT, MH etc.) and what technical quirks to expect (shit resolution, weird ass right "stick").
I bought mine like 2 years ago and has never regretted it which isn't something I can say about my PS4.

Depends on what you want to play.I would no buy either since I don't play Nintendo games and psvita is a wasteland.If you need portable just get a laptop

Sure, I do most of my gaming as well as everything else on the PC but as far as external gaming-centered devices aka toys go, this one is fantastic with how much you get and for how little money and hassle.

No idea, honestly. I own a N2DSXL purely because of its crazy low price and it's been really good to me. Some say the 3DS' screen is better and it feels more expensive in your hands which might or might not be true, I'd do some personal research if I were you

Had one but it was a right old fucking pain. Laptop gaming is good only in a coffee shop or something where you have ages.

It's a quarantine I'm not sure public transportation will exist after this.laptop works on train and for the buss just use your phone and play old psp games.

You can play all PS1 and PSP games and you can emulate tons of other consoles with Retroarch beside the Vita library

They look super janky though. Does it run well? Is it very DIY?
