I like playing male humans in video games because I, myself, am a male human. To pretend that I am anything other than a male person is laughable and pointless. So to properly that I am a male human and not not a male human, I pick the horde option most resembling a male human, a male blood elf, as male humans are not available on Horde.

I suppose I'm just comfortable being me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not discouraged from playing a game where I'm not me, in fact I prefer it.
Games where the main character is his/her own character and not a self insert, but if I'm playing an RPG with a character creator/silent protagonist, I try to be me as the purpose of those is to put myself into the game.
So in the context of WoW, I play human, Night Elf (because it's just a superior human model) and Blood Elf if I'm horde.

Identifying with the protagonist is a really important to enjoying media. Humans make an easy baseline for the fantasy world and in many cases the humans themselves are fantastic (as I’m dropping with fantasy) too

That is the culture that I had always attributed to Game of Thrones since it seemed like all the humans wanted to pretend to run noble houses. There’s less of it now it seems (on Moon Guard at least) but there’s still plenty of elite assassins with power levels over 9000 that compete to be edgy. Basically the decent stuff is easier to find than it used to be for me but the crap is also still around
