Blaming Ayano/Yandere-Chan's actions on some mythical blood curse feels more like a cheap way to try and whitewash her so the player doesn't feel like they're playing the villain.

Because, you know, no one would ever get invested or interested in a villain protagonist who is a legitimately shitty person. Best to just downplay all that and make it not their fault instead of rolling with them being shitty or, God forbid, actually fleshing them out to give them some redeeming traits.

Maybe I'm just a brainlet, but I don't like it because it absolves her of anything, but just because of the implications of shit like her dad being roped into the family like senpai would be and shit like that.

I'd be all for just playing a normal crazy bitch too, but after doing some reading up on what some of the planned story would be, it got me a little interested, but then I remembered this game wouldn't be out for a fucking millennia so it doesn't matter either way.

No. You find out in the "lore" that her mother had it and that Ayano's dad was her mother's senpai. You also find out that the grandmother did, too, and mindbroke her grandfather.

Truly hilarious to see Yandev's weakness as a writer with this blood curse idea but makes perfect sense, writing a sympathetic bastard is a bit harder than regurgitating pure anime tropes.

I mean, why not just keep it as that? "All the women in Yandere-chan's family are yanderes." Maybe even have an ending with a flashforward to their daughter eyeing a guy she likes too much. Yandere-chan is already as sympathetic as she needs to be depending on how you take care of the other girls, unless he cut out non-lethal takedowns?
