The only places we have are small locals with old machines and DDR/PIU dancepads, the rest are just console rental places. Anything bigger and is filled with ticket machines and oversized phone games.

I had a local arcade, but it took maybe 2 months after it opened for "unsavory" types to show up, start banging on the machines, mashing the buttons, hitting, kicking, etc, eventually they broke the ddr machine, and they couldn't afford to repair it because the only people that showed up would barely play at all and would just loiter.
Shut down within a year.

my choices are nu-Chinatown Fair in NYC which is easy to get to but most definitely closed or Round 1 in Long Island which is far and probably closed anyway so yeah

Not anytime soon, sadly. Feels especially bad since chinkvirus had to ruin things for everyone just a couple weeks after I managed to get the PIU machine connected online after a LOT of talks with arcade staff.
At least I have a homemade metallic pad for singles in the meantime...

Played groove coaster for like four hours. Tried out the other rhythm games. Didnt really know enough japanese to select songs I wanted on the project diva cabinet.
What I really wanted to play was popn music but they didn't have it.
