Why are all MMOs shit? Isn't there a good massively multiplayer online game where the gameplay is actually fun instead of a 3rd person hotbar icon cooldown management sim? Nothing like an action platformer, brawler, shmup, anything out there?
Why are all MMOs shit...
The age of mmo is over
Brawler mmo, fighter mmo, driving mmo etc. all kill
define mmmmo
PSO2
But I want to play games with my friends and they can't come over anymore because of corona
Why no mmo with guns. I feel like they really dropped the ball on a massive market segment there. Inb4 WoW
They aren’t shit. You just have shit taste or your tastes have changed over the years of playing them and you should go look for a new type of video game to play.
Wouldn't you like to know
It's called Fallout 76
You mean like an MMO FPS? Or TPS?
>brawler
dungeon fighter online might work for you but beware it has a korean progression system
I think wow is great
lots of things to do
what is Destiny
bad
Planetside 1 and 2 would like to know your location
Lost saga was pretty good until they sent full p2w and then had to close the game.
You mean FALLOUT 76 would like to know your location
Lobby shooters aren't MMO's
Planetside 1 and 2 are way better and less buggy than fallout 76
Fallout is a shitty overrated franchise
Todd pls
Basically anything that involves a huge playerbase in some kind of world, not just matches or lobbies. Obviously with something to do. Just anything other than typical MMOs like WoW or Final Fantasy. It just seems like MMO evokes a single type of game when an MMO could be almost anything.
Like, why no Asteroids style shmup game where you build a ship and fly in a gigantic universe, having shooty combat against other players, AI aliens, or just flying around in space ports buying stuff for your ship?
Or a Yakuza style brawler where you walk around in a huge city, being able to pick fights with whoever you want, NPCs or players. Maybe you pick factions and fight each other for turf. Maybe it's like a fighting game lobby where you can challenge rival players and fight skill based 1v1 matches for money, territory, rank, etc.
Or a 2d metroidvania dungeon looter type game where graphics are low fidelity but as a result the world is enormous with multiple interconnecting worlds/dungeons that you can try to fight alone or with a group. Like Harmony of Despair. Or Maplestory if it were good.
Just seems like there's so many kinds of games you can make online and fun but nobody does.
Name 3 of them that are fun, as in, actually fun, not just fun as in time occupying. 3 things, that you genuinely find fun, in WoW.
I looked it up and the combat system seems needlessly complex. You can't even play with a gamepad because you need so many buttons. Also by korean progression system I assume you mean it takes 20,000 hours of grinding before the game is fun.
>combat system seems needlessly complex
You can easily change the commands of skills and easily flow them together.
A couple things but ultimately, WoW had too long of a run on top.
It smothered any competition during the time period where a competitor could have equaled it, much like how I doubt any game will de-crown Path of Exile for the ARPG there is just so much content for the game that someone coming into it at this point is going to look very bare-bones no matter what the game launches with, not to mention how expensive it is to make an MMORPG these days.
A sub-point to this is that there is a finite amount of people who actually play MMORPGs, it is increasing but it is still only a fraction of the gaming population and most of those people are either playing WoW or FF14, so a new game would have to be good enough for them to leave games and characters they have been playing for years, which is very hard.
Basically, if you want new/better MMOs then the old giants like WoW have to die.
Gentlemen, how do we kill WoW?
everyone thought WoW would kill MMO
finally it was phones that did it.
You really can't kill the game from the outside, the only real way for it to die is from the suits at the top of Actiblizz pulling the plug. Need 2-3 back to back failed expansions for them to either reduce funding or shit can it.
Unfortunately, they are well aware of the game's status and slap the devs hard after every flop expansion.
Land dicks
Too big to die and the people who play it wouldn’t let it die no matter how much they shit on them.
I guess he meant MMOFPS, what I would love to as well.
Unfortunately no one ever made one, there were a few attempts imo like Global Agenda and Warframe.
But I think it would be nice if it where an open world mmofps.
Which if you actually think about it would probably be either easy as fuck since any person who could aim would be really good at it or have bullet sponge enemies.
Can't imagine a good game.
It'd be a looter shooter like Borderlands which means it's good or bad depending on your opinion of Randy bo Bandy's game.
You would need to tack on RPG elements to the game in some way to level the field somewhat, but then yeah you find yourself with the Division I issue of absolute unit level bullet sponges. And without the RPG stuff you just get Tarkov or Generic Royale game #57.
I think you would need to do what most games similar to this do and either wall off PvP to some separate section or just don't have it at all. The gap between a top level FPS player and an average player is just too large, never mind a sub-par player; Open World PvP would be an absolute nightmare.
