I enjoy both quite a bit. Chaos Theory is leagues ahead of other Splinter Cells, and one of the best executions of pure stealth in a videogame.

However, the first three MGS games are much better from a gameplay and level design standpoint. You could argue that Chaos Theory is the superior "stealth game" for offering more stealth-focused mechanics, but it doesn't achieve the same heights that the MGS trilogy does just from a pure gameplay perspective. MGS is far more than the sum of it's parts.

Btw, I'm assuming automatic skipped cutscene when discussing MGS1-3, you only watch that shit on first playthrough and if you feel like it on later playthroughs. So please do not respond to me with cutscene complaints, those do not factor into the pure gameplay discussion. MGS 1-3 are even better when you skip cutscenes.

All of the references to Metal Gear done by other games are because of the weird normie perception that somehow a boss ifight anime with pac-man gameplay has something to do with stealth. Every stealth Metal Gear joke in a game is only aimed at the people who have heard of Metal Gear at some point and have the false impression that it has something to do with stealth. It's literally a meme, and a false one. It's the equivalent of referencing cake in fiction that involves wormholes. Portal barely has anything to do with cake, but the entire world still thinks cake is a major part of it.
