I'm emulating with a snes controller and I've never beaten a megaman game apart from ZX when i was in gradeschool

One of the best 2D platformers of all time, if not THE best.

It's not as good as X2 but still fun.
Music is a little forgettable compared to some of the later entries. Has no real weaknesses but doesn't have as high of strengths as some other X entires. Also fuck the Spider Boss.

Play the Chill Penguin level first, you get the dash ability there and it's mandatory for the rest of the game. Also keep an eye out for hidden upgrades and be prepared to replay levels to get them; you'll want at least all 4 sub-tanks and armor before the final level.

are the megaman X games on playstation good too or should i stop at X3? Do the NES megaman games hold up or is it okay to ignore them?

If you can beat ZX you're more than prepared for X. The tight platforming, wall kicking and buster mechanics are all there.

There is some slowdown though, since it's a SNES title with no enhancement chips.

That's getting into a whole mess of things. Stick with the one series to begin with.

General consensus is that X1 and X4 are the best titles in the X series, with X2 and X3 also being enjoyable, and X5 being rough but still enjoyable.

X6 is a very divisive title due to some bullshit stage design choices, X7 is considered outright awful, and X8 is considered decent.

Also whilst X3 did officially get a PS1 release, don't bother with it, stick to the SNES version.

X4's okay, stop there.

Might be all in my head, but I was never that bothered by SNES lag. It seems very consistent (always happens at the same spots in specific levels of games) and I never notice any dropped inputs at least.

also the combat in Battle Network is really fun but i literally do not have the patience to fucking get through the insane amount of walking that game has you do. do you know if any other battle network games improve on this?

X1's armor is boring, the level design is nearly as bad as X4 & X7, The Bosses are easy except the Spider. I've played X1 too many times to have fun with it anymore, The most fun I've had recently was playing with the Air Dash patch. X3 Zero Project is still the peak of X romhacks though.

WAIT NO ignore this tell me if Megaman Zero is a good series please

Zero series is fantastic and you will not regret picking up the Zero / ZX Legacy collection.

Zero 1 is a bit rough and tough but it gets so much better later.
