Gonna have to second this, I didn't play much Mario prior to Sunshine coming out so collectathons were more my thing. Crash 3 was a cornerstone of my childhood, but so were those games you listed. You'd think I'd suck Odyssey's dick for emulating those games but really it was kind of like playing Banjo with 1,000 jiggies instead of 100, the little trinkets lost a lot of value because of it. Still alright, and that's how I feel about most Mario games - they're alright, but not my favorites. Galaxy's the exception because I'm a sucker for gravity fuckery, those games are TRYING to suck my dick and the effort is appreciated.

The opposite actually; the remakes are okay but there was literally no reason to remake them because they were just fine as is. Crash Bandicoot plays just as good today as it did the day it came out, it's still a ton of fun, it's why people remember it so fondly. Besides increasing the framerate above 30 these remakes didn't need to exist.

They were fantastic games for their time. 20 years ago. With limited graphics capabilities and limited worldbuilding available on the Playstation they were quite advanced for games made in the mid to late 90s.

Reintroducing the brand to a new audience. A lot of children these days aren't gonna bother with playing a PS1 game unless you doll it up a bit. As for people who did play them in the past, a stroll down nostalgia lane every once in a while doesn't hurt.
