I finished DoS:2 last week and want to get into another game. Would you guys suggest PF: Kingmaker with the turn based mod, or Pillars of eternity 2 turned based? Both seem interesting, and both offer turned based (not a fan of rtwp)
I finished DoS:2 last week and want to get into another game...
why would you ever want a turn based pathfinder? it's a slog even in real time
Pathfinder is the better game. Turn based is whatever in it though, the game is more or less turn based to begin with since it's all segmented into rounds that it just plays a little fast and loose with.
I would suggest Pathfinder. It toppled NWN2 for me.
Pillars 1 was a boring pile of shit and everyone I knew who played 2 thought it was even worse. I don't know much about Kingmaker but I'd suggest anything over PoE
Play with both rtwp and turnbased. Switch on turnbased for important fights while using rtwp for mowing down trash
Mechanically, PF:KM
PoE2's tb is hacked together with long casting spells taking multiple rounds to fire off. Feels akward.
PF:KM is turn based rules where someone turned off the turn pause and allowed players/units to move during others turns. TB mod feels like they fixed the game.
You can also toggle it on/off with a hot key if you find it a fight a slog. Not so in PoE2.
Semi-related: alpha for the next PF game drops next week.
The turn-based mod turns Pathfinder from an 80 hour game into a 120+ hour one just from extending the amount of time you spend in combat alone. Highly recommend playing it though, its one of the best modern rpgs you can play.
Turn-based makes Pathfinder a better game, but it has too much of rtwp's favorite pointless trash fights. You can switch between modes so in that way it's a non-issue, but it's still shit design.
>WotR alpha
Can't wait to be a Demon and romance the paladin queen chick.
desu it's the only decent CRPG to come out in more than a decade
Just noticed they got Avellone on the team
Shit can't go bad with that guy
Man, that guy only writes like one character in every game.
>not a fan of rtwp
What manner of zoomerism is this?
They got him as a narrative designer this time around though
I imagine they'll expand his role in some capacity
How is magic in kingmaker? Are wizards just CC like most other crpgs, or can they actually dish out damage too?
Any must have mods for this game?
Kingmaker is better in every way possible
What is the best ranged character for each game? I usually play as an archer in CRPGs.
Heard vivisectionist can pack quite a punch in ranged but is medium BaB can go full BaB with transformation tho but won't have it at all time, I like spawn slayer with a bow, after the first hit on a big boss, it goes nuclear, very versatile too.
for Pathfinder Kingmaker obviously,I never played PoE
Start with Pillars, it's the worst out of the two.
PoE 1&2 have the best lore
Kingmaker is the better game overall
ToEE
It's D&D3.5(yeah, yeah, for weeb munchkins), and you get to high levels. They're pretty fucking nasty.
PoE lore was sleep-inducing and amateurish, like someone's first attempt at a 90% derivative homebrew guidebook. Even the Almanac was a discount Pocket Guide, and the PGE was hardly high literature to begin with.
pillars 2 turn based mod is pretty bad honestly. game is designed for rtwp, and works much better like that
who /HarrimHarem/ here?
Depending on how you build them they are absolutely broken. For example, grease breaks early game encounters. I remember that some mage build minmaxed to make their spell DC really high to the point where illusionist spells would clear rooms and trivialise encounters.
The slog is what happens in RTwP. Areas are filled with filler spam encounters. It's been that way since BG1.
Vivisectionist is great for a melee dex tank. It's also great for str tanks if you build it right.
