Will we ever get a game with realistic melee combat?

Not until VR/Motion Detection picks way the fuck up compared to now. The best we have is like, Beatsaber, which is incredibly imprecise as far as motion controls go.
yeah give it 20 years
Fallout 4 with Grabbityhammer mod
> throwing your sword
this sound retarded?
Wouldnt be fun.
The push towards realism is killing AAA games
That's the most reddit question I've heard in a long time.
Exanima is as close as you're gonna get, until some AAAA company like Rockstar decide to make a medieval game
because it would be slow and boring as fuck.
real life combat was not about 1vs1 but many vs many.
>what are tournaments
There's a number of plausible justifications. For example, suppose you knew your foe is a much better fencer: as opposed to almost certainly losing in a regular fight, you give yourself one chance to incapacitate him and if that doesn't work out, you just leg it.
surely realistic would be swordfags eating shit vs spears
>The autistic HEMAfag VS the Chad iaido practitioner.
>worthless post
>anime girl image
Checks out. Fateniggers should have a containment board.
Yeah, the drifting and the cord are two of the biggest problems with VR locomotion right now. Newer models remedy these solutions but are either underpowered and gimped (Quest) or have cameras attached to the headset but can't function without a light source (Rift S).
Only if the spearfags are grouped up in formation. Swords are better for one on ones, while spears are far superior for formations.
no
Elaborate
Yes And I'll be working on it
Spears are better than swords. Fire Emblem and Lindybeige told me so!
Not him, but the range difference is simply too much to overcome if spear guy knows what he's doing.

This kind of dynamism with a gameplay like Sekiro but with more moves and complexity would make me happy
>Swords aren't complete shit. Shitty movies and fantasy novels told me so!
I did watch Lindy's video, and it seemed pretty reasonable. If you have a better recommendation for sources that go over things in a more accurate way, I'd like a link to them.
yeah who would ever fight in formation in a war when you can just have everyone fight duels instead
some people are just pussies, it happened more then you think.
This right here
Gang beasts is about as close as you'll get to a drunken brawl I guess.
While this looks good, is no way close to how medieval swordfighting looks like.
>I did watch Lindy's video, and it seemed pretty reasonable
this, its just good choreography
come on then user, tell us how much money you wasted on your sword
Larping nerds would get rekt by a guy weighing 20 lbs more than them
Just play Bannerlord. The combat isn't as intricate as Kingdom Come: Deliverance or any others that try to simulate every possible swordstroke, but Bannerlord (and Warband) are amazing battle simulations. It's all about teamwork, positioning, and team composition.
Archers sit on the sidelines taking potshots at exposed backsides and horses. Spears are used to halt horsemen in their tracks or dissuade them from attacking you. Shields are important for guarding against projectiles as well as for pushing into enemy infantry formation and attacking multiple opponents at once. As a cavalryman, you attempt to flank and kill off defenseless or distracted footmen while your own footmen push the objective. The skirmish mode is probably the only really competitive mode in the game currently, but you can join the custom TDM servers to get easy practice in.
Very cringy
reminds me of this piece of shit

No, spears are still better than solo swords for 1-on-1, assuming there's room to use it. The length lets you maintain the offensive and rapidly change target, and if the swordsman manages to close you can shorten your grip and attack him with both ends.
Swords come into their own when paired with a shield or decent armor, though.
>that kid who got beat up by chad with a 8-hit juggle
>run out of ammo
>throw weapon
>+1 ammo
Duh?
categorically wrong. Swords are sidearms. Primary arms were almost always a polearm.
Swords were dueling weapons precisely because they were side arms--something that people could carry in their day to day lives. That's also why firearm duels were fought with pistols, not long arms.
Except all a swordsman has to do is move the spear a bit to his side and reduce distance, once he's moved half the length of spear, spearman is absolutely defenseless.
>implyinf full plate couldn't just walk through this muppet
>implying armored knights were on foot
What about the Zweihänder?
>Thinking that any of these moves happened outside of fancy fake duels between nobles.
99% of real sword fighting was a clusterfuck of wild swinging and hacking at your opponent until someone was dead. Even if you tried this gay fancy shit you would immediately get destroyed as someone rushed you and hacked away at your head like a fucking madman.
That thrust 9 seconds in looks like a good way to lose a couple of fingers
From my readings 99% of it was walking and standing around, finally meeting, then marching up to enemy and getting shot by some sort of ranged weapon.
this grip is so cringe
>Bannerlord
You mean the game where all swings are in molasses and you're restricted to four cardinal directions? Where all strikes have insane wind-up and the poky part of a spear is more of a weekly-worded suggestion delivered by snail mail than a forceful imperative? Where shields are clunky half-shells and axes are just sharp hammers?
Fuck off, shill.
It confuses them whole you run away, fighting is for heroes who get statues and die young. Cowards die old and get lots of pussy. Bitch you think im gonna die in some dirty ass field for some king i never even met? Nigga fuck that shit, you be a hero.
Alexander was such a shit movie but damn if it isn't the best on-screen representation of the big battles of Alexander's campaign. Iirc, they even included some of the amazing feats of engineering too.
t. hung for deserting his lords army
user, do you really think you can run faster than the guy with the spear can retract it?
What if he, IDK, takes a step backwards to maintain distance?
What if he smacks you in the face with the back end of the spear?
You need to be WAY better than the other guy to pull it off.
Your horse can climb ladders? Cool.
What about the legends of great warriors that would take down hundreds of soldiers in a single battle?
>plate ballerina vs peasant chad.webm
Niche use weapon
>Not taking into account how much swords cost
Nigga they also wrote about a guy who died and came back to life and turned water into wine. Just because someone wrote it down doesn't mean it's reliable.
