How replayable is doom eternal...

How replayable is doom eternal? I don't want to spend 80$ (canadian) on the game if I can't get at least 40 hours out of it.

It doesn't have that much replayability at the moment unless you want to grind Master Levels and Ultra-Nightmare.
That being said, I love it so much I beat it like three times already.

You could also do repeat playthroughs to go over shit you missed in terms of secrets and that.

You'll have to play it a lot to finish ultra nightmare and all the master levels

It's $99.95 in Australian dollars.

Like fuck I'm paying that much.

Depends whether ultra nightmare (have to finish the whole game without dying) sounds fun to you. If it appeals, you'll get a bit of time out the game from trying to do that. Otherwise, there isn't really much to do after you've finished the campaign.

Do you like puzzle shooters? Eternal is my biggest videogame disappointment in the left couple years.

Campaign isn't replayable at all and battlemode gets boring on your second match.

OP here, probably should have said I got 100+ hours out of the first game just by playing through the campaign over and over

That's what you get from being from a stupid fucking country.

Well then Eternal is even better in that regard because you can skip cutscenes. It's easily my top GOTY contender so far but if you're strapped enough for cash that you're asking this question in the first place, I would just pirate and hold off for a sale once the DLC is out.

>tfw Mike Shapiro voiced Ishmael in Blood 2
>he said a throwback was coming later in 2020
I'm not too sure if a Blood 3 would be any good, but if it was and we got a year with Eternal, Alyx and that, it would be amazing.

It's not even playable, the chainsaw gimmick will make you uninstall in an hour.

Not really strapped, I just don't want to pay 80$ for a game where I could buy multiple cheaper games

I've heard ppl complaining about the chainsaw, why are they

I regret paying money for it at all

Wish i could re-sell it somewhere but ebay keeps removing my listings

It's a key part of your arsenal because of how quickly you run out of ammo, you have to use it occasionally if you don't want to run dry. I don't see the problem with it, it behaves exactly the same as it did in the last game, but I guess if you're the type of person who gets fed up with glory kills it can get annoying. I see more people upset with the ammo situation in general than the implementation of the chainsaw specifically.

Because they're bad at the game. The chainsaw is essentially an ammo refill that kills a trash mob or a regular mob if you have 3 pips. All the shitters constantly run out of ammo and don't switch guns and complain. When you're effectively using your guns and taking out enemies efficiently with the right guns and have ammo upgrades, you won't be stopping to chainsaw every minute like people bad at the game claim.

OP, the game has a decent playtime. I have about 30 to 40 hours on a 100% Nightmare file. It's not super replayable but it's there to challenge yourself. It's kind of like OG DOOM really in that regard. I don't regret the purchase, but I do wish it had more levels in the base game.

Not even remotely replayable beyond doing it again but everything takes twice as many hits

Then you may get plenty out of it, but that doesn't make it replayable, it makes you have weird taste

I did 2 playthroughs, totaling 40 hours.

I'd say its worth it, haven't started trying UN yet either.

It’s good but idk if you’re gonna get 40 hours out of it. I played it on UV and then on Nightmare and feel pretty ‘done’ with it at about 30ish hours

>twice as many hits
This is bait, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Wrong

I've played through on ultraviolence and nightmare. Enemies get faster and do more damage, not become bullet sponges. You're full of shit, kys.

Wrong

it works a lot differently, it's a separate instant melee button rather than a weapon you keep out. It doesn't work on big guys anymore as it can only hold 3 fuel - you'll rarely have all 3 fuel in it though. 3 fuel can take out a medium guy like a revenant or something.

1 fuel unit recharges automatically after some time so you'll never be completely out. That will chainsaw what the game calls fodder enemies - zombies, imps & gargoyles. In arena encounters those smaller enemies will always respawn until the encounter is over.

The important thing to know is ammo is low, like 1/4 of the max ammo Doom 2016 had. To prevent a no ammo scenario, there will always be fodder in the room to chainsaw, even during bosses. Zombies, imps and gargoyles are essentially your ammo pickups.

It's a gameplay loop that has divided people, but I think it's fine. Makes you use grenade equipment often and the optimal weapon for each enemy so it's not wasted.

These low iq brainlets
Don't get it. They think people dislike the chainsaw because they can't comprehend they need to use it, not because its a 0 effort chore that stops the pacing as you need to constantly stop to one shot something, with the same repetitive animation, constantly, all the time. Its not hard. Its not thought provoking. There's no skill involved at all. It is nothing more than a tax you have to pay to keep having fun.

Not a lot of replayability unless you like to speedrun it or like the niche battlemode. It is still a really fun game and thought the 80 bucks was well spent.

you're right about it being a fun tax. It should have been upgraded to the energy weapon once you obtain that, rather than that being it's own unnecessary super weapon thing. At least that has slightly faster animations.

And the faster glory kills rune should affect it...
In fact rapid kill animations should just be an option in the game settings - it's not really a buff, if anything you're losing ifames and tactical planning time. It's just a convenience.

>There's no skill involved at all. It is nothing more than a tax you have to pay to keep having fun.
There is no skill involved in walking over items to pick them up either, because the execution isn't the point. The skill is about knowing when to Chainsaw, not how to do it.

What's more, if you were purely reliant on item pick-ups for ammo, you would find yourself having to run away from enemies more often in order to get to the items, which could potentially result in you trying to find that one last bit of ammo in an arena like trying to get to the last pill in Pacman, except you don't know exactly where it is.

By letting you get ammo by killing enemies you have more reason to play aggressively. What's more, while you're Chainsawing an enemy, other enemies can still move and encircle you, so they can hit you with a meaty once your invincibility ends and bodyblock you if you try to dash away. So it's not like there's zero risk involved unless you're playing on a lower difficulty.

I've done my standard run, an Ultra-Nightmare run which took a few tries, and then another one just to clean up the extra life and no upgrades achievements
Obviously UN will depend on how many tries it takes you but each playthrough is about 9 hours your first time and less every time after when you start skipping cutscenes and not looking for secrets
Battlemode sucks so here's hoping they patch in Deathmatch later and fix the netcode

When you are low
There is 0 skill involved.
Items don't respawn, enemies do.
They created the illusion of ammo management via tedium, rather than a game where ammo actually matters.

I beat the game 6 times and counting. Each and every time it felt like I beat it slightly faster, though in reality each playthrough after the first one was ~9 hours long. (60 hours on the clock rn)
If you found 2016 replayable, Eternal's replayability is even better with skippable cutscenes and plenty of QoL changes. Buy it mate.

Dumb retard, it keeps the pace way better than looking for ammo mid fight or being out of ammo and being stuck. It's a second or two. Again, it's not repetitive if you use your ammo wisely. Only shitters have to do it constantly where anyone could even believably start thinking it breaks the pace. This game is unbelievable at exposing people who are garbage at video games between Marauder and the chainsaw

>They created the illusion of ammo management via tedium, rather than a game where ammo actually matters
Ammo still matters. Try spending only one ammo type for the whole game and see how far you get. You could do this in nuDoom because the ammo caps were so high. But with the lower ammo caps in Eternal, doing so will quickly put you out of ammo and make you wait for the Chainsaw to recharge, meaning you're better off switching to another ammo type, which is the whole point of the system.

What's more, if you don't Chainsaw regularly, there's a higher possibility that you will run out of ammo of a type that a situation really calls for while there's no fodder demons within Chainsaw range or if your Chainsaw is still off cooldown. This is especially the case if you rely on the SSG/Ballista combo or Lock-on Burst for damage, which chews through your ammo.
