Why did this really good game with mostly positive reviews from both press and gamers cause a vocal minority to seethe so much? People who don't like Crysis 2 almost make it their personal mission in life to ensure you know they hate Crysis 2.

Are the crysis games any good? All I remember about them is that they’d pop up when you looked up “game with best graphics” in 2008
I liked it but it was too easy.
>Are the crysis games any good?
I wouldn't be so dismissive to call them tech demos but there are far better FPS games.
Pretty solid, except 3.
Crysis was good and the first four/five levels had great repalayability. Then it became a linear alien shooter and kind of sucked for the last half.
Crysis 2 took that last half and made a game of it, while also removing the fun stuff from the nanosuit so scrubs who couldn't manage suit energy and fats switch between speed and strength modes could enjoy. What a waste.
It's a downgrade from the first game in every way.
>smaller levels
>less interactivity in the environment
>shittier suit functions that make for slower and more boring gameplay
I had more fun punching gooks in the first game.
the multiplayer was great
Because it regressed the game in every single conceivable aspect, but even a discount Crysis is good enough to impress console players and simpleton critics. It was chastised not by a vocal minority, but by what looks like the average player that played C1 and knew how much potential was wasted on what is ultimately "just" an above average game.
They tried to substitute sandbox systems for scripted polish, but this polish breaks down severely. First game is more physical from how your guns handle to the ways everything around you reacts and that's what make it timeless like GTA IV. Even if Crysis 1 isn't perfect, it's alive thanks to all the simulations, however simple. Which is much better.
I liked it but do remember feeling disappointed by the lack of innovation compared with the first. 1 felt like a next gen experience at the time whereas 2 was just a good looking kinda tepid shooter.
There's a large portion of the PC userbase that just gets mad at everything for no reason
Crysis 2 is just CoD but you can turn invisible
I like crysis 2 more than the first game cause I like urban levels more than jungle levels.
It’s probably the most bland, mediocre game of all time. It lacks everything that made Crysis 1 unique and interesting, and is instead a linear corridor shooter, with nice graphics. If somebody ever asks what is wrong with modern AAA games, I will direct them to this game.
>previously PC-only game has a consolized sequel and visibly suffers for it
Gee I wonder why people didn't like it as much as the first one
Obvious downgrades and such. The first Crysis proved PC gamers, who owned high end rigs, were in a large minority. No point in making games for a market that hardly exists. Especially if they end up pirating the product.
>grow into a huge company by releasing only on PC
>go almost bankrupt after going for the console market
You are wrong.
They were wrong.
>go almost bankrupt after going for the console market
No one cared about Crysis. People only went ape over it because of the visuals of the first game. The second one came and went, and the third wasn't even looked at.
>>shittier suit functions that make for slower and more boring gameplay
Some prefer the "tankier" feel of the Nanosuit 2.
Only the multi was good because everyone was fucking superman with a gun
It has more in common with something like FEAR, but with even wider and more vertical level design. I fail to see how the game is anything like a Modern Warfare era Call of Duty game.
>first game
They made Far Cry before that, everybody cared it was a HUGE thing and not only because of the grafics.
Also Crysis has amazing gameplay, the tech demo meme is spewed by brainlets who don't actually like video games.
>good game
i like walking an straight line till the next small zone of enemies without having options and unable to destroy walls or buildings at all because fuck yea going backwards in gaming
>made a profit for a shit sequel
>no one cared
well they did care to fuck over the pc market at least and release a sequel no worth playing even if it was free
It feels like going from an olympic athlete to controlling an average american fatso.
I don't know why one would prefer the objectively inferior option.
Gameplay's fine like half the game. Opening level is easily the best one. Just goes downwards from the on. And as far as Crytek success goes. They're a German studio. In Germany they got this program, it's basically welfare for developers and such. They can always make another game with a certain budget, although with Crysis 2/3, it was EA that stepped. And as shown, no one gave a shit and it was dropped.
Crytek were always on the verge of collapse. It's why they sold their precious Far Cry IP to Uwe Boll and Ubisoft.
I bought it day 1 and I want you (you), yes, YOU (YOU) to know that I hate this piece of shit.
Call of Crysis sucks and you should feel bad for liking it.
>well they did care to fuck over the pc market
They did, but only because high end up gaming isn't a feasible market, so they also made it for consoles, hoping it would do better. But again, no one gives a shit about Crysis. Especially in the age of COD.
It's shit bro.
Crysis 2 is a hugely popular game. There's a reason half the responses to Crytek's latest tweets have been some variation. "My name is Prophet."
part of the fun of Crysis 1 was switching between suit modes on the fly to best suit on-the-moment gameplay decisions and enhance combat. Crysis 2 did away with this completely by automatically assigning suit powers to button commands
Such an immemorable video game. I remember having fun playing it through but for the life of me I can't remember any action sequence from it. I can still remember bunch of levels from Crysis 1 and Warhead.
That's a load of bullshit, I am german and am aware of the government funding program.
It's a recent thing and only applies to very selective titles that are educational or otherwise meantingful culturally.
They were fucking exploding with moeny after crysis and rapidly expanding, which was one of the reasosns for bleeding money away.
Is it me or is literally every person who don't like Crysis 2 a Crysis 1 fan? It's almost like how everyone in the real world loves Saints Row 3, but the Saints Row 2 fanbase won't shut up about how SR3 is shit and doesn't deserve to be remastered.
Based Pyranna Bytes games making the cultural cut.
Crytek got massively fucked in about 2009 when the global financial crisis hit. That's when they cancelled Project Jelena and moved all their dev resourced into Crysis 2 in an attempt to stay afloat.
Speaking of 2009, this is what Crysis 2 looked like in late 2009. The nanosuit was rather different at this point. youtube.com
Crysis 2 took a shit on everything that made the first game great. It was literally, "we want the call of duty audience!"
