Why is it that none of the past few final fantasy games had an actual world to explore except for the fucking MMO? Just compare the empty world of FFXIII and FFXV to the one from FFXIV. Why can't they just take the XIV world and make the game even more singleplayer oriented to make a real modern final fantasy game?
Why is it that none of the past few final fantasy games had an actual world to explore except for the fucking MMO...
Simply put, The wrong people are in charge of the mainline series, from the aesthetics and story, to the gameplay and character progression.
The real question is how a series such as Final Fantasy got to be so popular (the answer is Final Fantasy 7, I know) even though it's generally mediocre to bad installment to installment.
You can finish the entire game without using chat once, I don't know what you mean by "making it more singleplayer"
It seems like you are retarded. You literally need parties to do the mainstory quests, hence "making it more singleplayer" would mean to get rid of the whole playing with other players part.
"other players" are nothing more than glorified bots user
Yes, and they are still required. I don't know what is wrong with your fucking brain, but to make a singleplayer game you first need to get rid of multiplayer components, you dimwit.
FF14 has unlike previous games no set deadlines. Its service model means the devs can continue improving the game using sub fees as investment.
FFXIV open world is barren and not worth exploring.
Almost every ff game has a party of several characters user, what's the difference ?
Please stop replying to me, you are fucking braindead. The difference is that in FFXIV your party are OTHER FUCKING PLAYERS, THUS MAKING IT A MULTIPLAYER GAME.
that's not how multiplayer games work user, if you don't interact with them there's no difference between them and a faceless second grade bat enemy in a NES game.
So you can play ff14 as a single player game, it's not hard to do, just don't press "enter"
They had plans far far too grandiose for 13. It was supposed to be an enormous series of not just the 13 games, but 0, agito, versus/15 as well.
They fucking whiffed the whole versus thing, and 15 is so separate from the crystallis world that I don't know why it's still technically considered part of it.
Not to defend 13 at all, just saying they intended to build the world up in a much longer span of time, they were hoping to make another ff7 where they could do spinoffs for years. Obviously it didn't pan out.
I don't think 14 really has an "explorable" world though, that's a pretty fucking big misnomer, the world is fucking barren and empty, it's the main storylines that funnel you to and from areas, and even then most of the dungeons, primals, all that shit that's actually impactful is just teleporting you to places, you never feel like you're exploring anything to get there.
>505008817
>playing with other people is not how multiplayer games work
Well, thanks for the laugh, but you aren't even getting a (You) from me for this level of retardation.
if you don't talk to someone in a video game, and he doesn't talk, what's the difference between him and a random npc vendor ?
tell me
The mmo’s world is just travelling from quest hub to quest hub. There is no exploration, discovery or immersion to be had at all. I wish the dicksucking this game gets would stop, it is a shitty WoW clone themepark with a weeb skin.
That he's not controlled by the game and is another fucking player, you inbred nigger.
and even then, everything is so heavily instance based that the world might as well not exist.
is it really interacting with other players if you all say literally nothing to each other and just mindlessly do the content?
FF13 looked so amazingly good, cant remember when I was last that impressed by a game's graphics, and then 5 hours in 10 hours in i was trying to get out of the tutorial area, and it just wasnt ending. Finally I got to the first open plain area whatever the name was, imagining another 30-40 hours of gameplay i had ahead of me, and then the game ended.
>is it really interacting with other players
Strawman argument. I never mentioned interaction with other players outside of gameplay. It is a multiplayer game because you play with other people. That in itself means that more than 1 player need to interact with the game in order to progress. In the first place it is an absolute non argument, 90% of matches in fighting games are without any verbal or text interaction from players, does that mean fighting games are singleplayer games?
Gran pulse.
And yeah that was the problem. It fed you tutorial mechanics all the way up until like 2 hours before the game ended. You didn't get the ability to even switch fucking party members until nearly 40% through the game.
It had a load of potential, and I honestly think if they tried to make it a self contained game instead of trying to pawn off the explanation for what the FUCK the l'cie/fal'cie bullshit was to later entries, it would have been much more fondly remembered. It had problems, but it was still my favorite applicataion of ATB ever.
>does that mean fighting games are singleplayer games?
fair enough point. I'd still argue that lack of player interaction is a more important issue in something labeled "massively multiplayer" though
I don't give a flying fuck about your subjective idea of some mysterious quantity threshold of player interaction a game needs to be qualified as a mutliplayer title. You are like a fucking tranny trying to justify their gender disphoria while for normal people it's a binary state. Do you play alone or do you play with other people? That's all that fucking matters for what counts or doesn't count as a fucking multiplayer game.
I just replay FFXII from time to time. Even FFX barely had anything to explore if I'm being honest
>Do you play alone or do you play with other people?
I target enemies and I press buttons
I don't even look at other "players, there's a punch of pixels walking about from time to time
I pretty much play alone
it would be like saying you know a lot of people because you read a list of name in a register
Irrelevant. Factually it's still a multiplayer game, your subjective opinion can't change facts.
the difference is ai party members can't kick you if you suck at the game
damn dude chill the fuck out
Both of these, pretty much.
/thread
that also mean every game is an online game since you're pretty much forced to be online to play.
If several people exchange about a game, that mean it's a multiplayer game then
You can try to make up your own reality, but there is an actual definition of multiplayer game. Whatever the fuck fantasy shit you are describing is not the actual definition of multiplayer games, FFXIV however fits the actual definition. Your made up bullshit is irrelevant.

>Why can't they just take the XIV world and make the game even more singleplayer oriented to make a real modern final fantasy game?
Because that would limit it to one, stand-alone game which couldn't justify the amount of content XIV has pumped out. But, the reason why FFXIV's world/lore is so expanded upon is because a lot of it is texted, to accommodate the regular and frequent content patches. In order to speed up the release of the patches, things like voiced cutscenes are rare. Most of the story is done by NPC text bubbles. If that's what you want mostly out of a stand-alone FF game, then yea, that could easily be done. But let's get real here. No one thinks that would past muster.
Just subscribe for every expansion every 2 years like Yoshida wants you to and please look forward to his second Final Fantasy game.
