You can barely make any friends or just talk to people in general unless you have that shit installed. I struggle to even stay up on it for more than a day, I forget to log into it for the most part or just have no interest to launch it up daily.
Even as a game dev or anything similar, you need that piece of shit in order to communicate with others that you might want to work with. Even if someone adds you on a client like Steam, which already has a proper text chat, they'll still ask you to talk on Discord instead. What the fuck?
Not having a Discord account or not using it now became the new equivalent of "If you don't have a Facebook account, then you don't exist/you're nothing."
Same reason Whatsapp overtook texting and iMessage. It's convenient to have everybody in one place rather than texting one friend, FB messaging another, sending a messenger pigeon to the tin foil hat bro and needing 5 different apps just to speak to your group of friends.
