99% of the time the dialogue wheel only railroads you like that when you're on the main quest. Most side quests had multiple ways of completion and divulging gameplay and dialogue paths.

While the dialogue system sucked, the game was still fun for me until the Institute reveal/twist.
It was so stupid that the fact that they're evil is just because of some stupid reason (hurr we're killing the people on the surface and replacing them with an exact robot replica for the good of humankind) turned me off from finishing the game.

Which is a real shame since the graphical and gameplay overhaul was great imo and there were some pretty great companions (Nick, Hancock, Danse, Piper) and NPCS (Kellogg) sprinkled throughout the game.
I wish it could've been better, or at the very least, that Bethesda would improve upon its flaws in the next game, but 76 has killed all hope in the franchise for me.

This video is a pretty good explanation of what went wrong. Emil's "Keep It Simple Stupid" approach to the story removed player choice and puts the game's story on rails. You get a choice of 4 endings, each is extremely similar to the next.
Who controls the commonwealth? The basement dwellers who might occasionally do something unethical? The zeppelin fascists who might occasionally do something unethical? The toaster liberators who no longer have a purpose? Or the cowboy police? Everything else you "choose" is inconsequential, if there is even a choice.

Fallout suffers from the same malaise as 40K. It can't progress or else it won't be what it was. Fallout probably has it worse than 40K, too.
Literally has to be same same rickety buildings and piecemeal, rickshaw weapins but with super advanced alternatives.
Also, the weiting is shit. Every company is comically evil to the point of unbelievability. Not a single one didn't have a memo about staff being fired for dying on the job/company time.

New Vegas is hardly the worst game in the series considering the trashfires that are BOS exist that nearly killed the series.
