We all know how lots of devs went to Sony when Nintendo stuck with cartridges, but most of them came back somehow. Capcom and Namco ported a few of their PS1 games to the 64, and Konami put out a bunch of titles including two new Castlevanias and Goemons.
Besides main series FF, plenty of Square's PS1 games could have been done on Nintendo's console. So why is it that one of the biggest devs from the SNES era made zero (0) games for the N64?
Why did Squaresoft skip the N64?
because they tried to fuck nintendo
Money
They actually wanted to release FF7 on the N64, but then they saw what capacity the cartride can provide and noped the fuck out of there.
and succeeded it seems. Ever since the 64 ninty has become the gimmick company
I know, that's why I said besides the main series FFs. Any of their sprite based games, Brave Fencer Musashi, even Tactics could have been done on the 64.
N64 had a strict no 2D policy as far as I can remember. So maybe that's another reason.
That was ps1 retard.
There are plenty 2D games on the PS1 dipshit
Are you an idiot by any chance?
IIRC Nintendo was so asshurt about Square jumping shit they banned all the execs from their headquarters for 10 years or something like that.
The fault lay with Nintendo - not the other way around.
I mean, we did get Paper Mario and Ogre Battle 64, though those were rare. I know that gen was all about 3D but I never heard about any Bernie Stolar-tier policy against 2D.
Because they were utterly obsessed with making CG movies, to the point where they bankrupted themselves.
lol?
Nintendo banned Square from their offices for 10 years after Square pulled FF7 from the N64
I don't think they had a no 2d i just think it was desinged more for 3d so 2d never looked good on it.
Isn't it crazy that this was ported to the SNES but not the 64? Not to mention Mega Man and Bass being made for the SNES instead.
>PS1 gets 2D Castlevanias
>N64 only gets the inferior 3D ones
>PS1 gets 2D Megaman games
>N64 only gets the inferior 3D ones
Pretty sure that was the Saturn in North America, I can't really think of any but my memory could be failing me. However I can think of a bunch on ps1 and a few on N64
>nintendo doesnt have final fantasy
>nintendo doesnt have grand theft auto
>nintendo doesnt have call of duty
>actually wonders why they sell like shit compared to playstation
god damn
Because FF7 was a success on the PS and there was no point of going back to Nintendo and working on limitations with the N64 when they could just do games on multiple-discs instead..? For some reason they released FF7 and 8 on PC back then for how popular they got worldwide
wouldnt be surprising if Nintendo got butthurt when they saw FF on their new rival and losing money to them.
It was definitely encouraged by Nintendo. Also, if you look at the technical aspects, the N64 had less space avaiable on their cartridge but faster loading times. Therefor it was better for making 3D games on it. The N64 also had problems with handling sprites.
SCEA had a anti 2d policy unless dev had 3d games around or game had some kind of 3d element to show.
Castlevania had a 3d area so it got okayed just because that. But shit was there till PS3.
Square went back to nintendo begging to put games on their platforms since they had fuck all money. Which why GBA FFs are a thing.
>wouldnt be surprising if Nintendo got butthurt when they saw FF on their new rival and losing money to them.
Nintendo president said this in 1999
>[People who play RPGs are] “depressed gamers who like to sit alone in their dark rooms and play slow games.”
He was butthurt for sure
>2D Castlevanias
>plural
???
Also
>inferior 3D ones
Those and SotN are apples and oranges
The PS1 also had its fair share of problems with sprites and 2D. We still got plenty of 2D games on it. In my opinion, it definitely had to do with Nintendos policies on how they want the games, which are released for the N64, to be handled.
Because Nintendo treats 3rd party developers like shit. It was terrible in the golden age of Nintendo it probably has improved since then now that nintendo made one failure after another and realises that they can't keep going alone with Mario/Zelda reboots.
>Camecube
>Wii (nobody bought games and was used a a fitness platform for boomers)
>Wii U
If it weren't for the success of Switch they would have gone the way of Sega.
GTA and CoD weren't in the picture for 5th gen, and FF hasn't been a system seller since then.
D Castlevanias
>>plural
>he doesn't know
Why are you so obsessed that you feel the need to lie?
Oh wait, I forgot about the shitty remake of the first game.
