What is your most controversial opinion about video games (or at least controversial on Yas Forums)?

Games released after the mid-2000s are just fine. This board is just full of boomers who have nostalgia goggles for the games they played in their youth, and who are now jaded and hate everything, including all video games. The only video games they don't hate are from a time when they were happier.

Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are good.

That's not controversial. Anyone who says no good games have been made past the 6th gen, period, is a fucking retard.

Doesn't change the fact the 7th generation introduced irreparable damage to the medium with exploitve paid DLC, Microtransactions, always online requirements, Service game, and homogenized design trends from Western AAAs aimed at appealing to the lowet-common-denominator.

*Service games

The vast majority of games prior to 4th gen are shit, and the ones that are good should be treated as a novelty.

OP is a zoomer who doesn't understand hyperbole. It's obvious to anyone with a functioning brain that posts saying all modern games are shit aren't meant to be taken literally.

Soulsborne games are ugly and boring and only get propped up for being difficult and having “deep” stories.

Yeah, I was gonna say something about that in the post. I'm very mixed on DLC. I think the further away from the original game release date and the more complete the "original game" feels, the more I'm okay with DLC. I just hate Day 1 DLC and on-disc DLC even more.
Also, I feel like a lot of the hatred towards modern games on this board is because of Western AAA games. As far as that goes, Western AAA games can be a bit of a mixed bag. Indie games and Japanese games are usually pretty solid though.

For some reason, I think of vidya as a waste of time, despite me doing a lot of activities in my life that are considered by others to be just as much of a waste of time, such as watching anime or being on this site. I still like and play vidya, but I always feel guilty about how much time I've put into a game once I've finished it. I don't feel like this when I finish some 24-episode anime that took me the same amount of time to finish that a video game would.

gacha games should be banned in all countries for exploiting a human weakness but they get a free pass for having cute girls

I hate this dumb oomer shit

its mostly just 201-2015 that most of it was getting shit

Bloodborne is not ugly

Chara did nothing wrong.

multiplayer is what eventually ruined videogames

You are absolutely 100% correct

Video games in this day and age are absolutely enormous and beautiful and the amount of effort and love that goes into them is still incredible

This place is run by a bunch of jaded faggots who thinks NEW = BAD and nobody can actually talk about video games here anymore

Here's a hot take :

Half Life 2 was really mediocre at best and wasn't some redefining saving grace of video games

Final Fantasy 2 and 3 are the only bad games in the series.

>(or at least controversial on Yas Forums)?
Uncharted is a great series, and of the best third person shooter games of all time.

Side scrollers are all trash, the only good sonic games were PS2 era and dark souls is overrated

I did not care for Undertale

Zoomer beats off fellow zoomer.

Ftfy

I DID NOT CARE FOR DARK SOULS

Very true. People who just hate all games find ways to shit on everything new for no apparent reason. I’ve accepted that I’ll always be nostalgic and analyze games by their actual mechanics instead of reciting dumbass memes

i think video games suck

Persona 5 is better then 3, equal to 4.

Uncharted 1 is rough, but the characters are endearing
Uncharted 2 and 3 are Indy-kino
I'm still mad about Uncharted 4

Based

I think most of the people on this board share that opinion

My unpopular with normies opinion:
>rdr2 is not the prettiest game ever made, it's not even the prettiest game of its year
Unpopular with Yas Forums:
>retroarch is not worth the hassle if you don't plan to play with buddies online. just get standalone emulators. there's nothing wrong with simplicity.

>What is your most controversial opinion about video games
They're not a real hobby no matter how many hours you spend obsessing over them

Ps1/N64 and NES era games aged far better than SNES/Genesis era games

>real hobby
lol oh no it's not an epic real hobby like whittling wood or posting on my favorite online forums, what will I ever do

I used to be a massive dark souls fan and played 1 and 2 religiously, soon after 3's first DLC came out and fought the boss that turns invisible with several phases I realized how little reward I got from the franchise. 3 was fucking stale and every boss felt like it was just an endurance run with 10 thousand phases to just waste my time. I check out of From soft games a while ago.

>whittling wood
hobby
>or posting on my favorite online forums
not a hobby
>video games
not a hobby

>Last of Us is just a generic third person shooter.
>Halo 1 & 3 are better than 2
>Dark Souls is overrated
>Video Games are becoming too much like Films
>Video Games have become so expensive to make that investors want generic experiences so the Game appeals to the most people, this is why AAA Games tend to be so meh. Its all about getting return investments.

It looks like shit, user

The world would be better off if video games never existed.

Blacks are people too

>Games are just fine
No they're not, they suck ass

Emulation is better than playing on native hardware. Load times are better and you can tweak graphic and sound options to your ideal experience, and you're not stuck shrugging your shoulders to a deteriorated old PS1.

Story contributes next to nothing with it comes to a game's quality even for rpgs. There has never been, nor will there ever be a video game with a story that I would consider good. If I want a good story, I'll read a book. A game's story needs only to not be completely retard to be acceptable. Anyone who considers story to be more important than gameplay is actively hurting gaming as a whole and all their opinions should be ignored and mocked.

I played DS1 and BB to death but couldn't finish either DS3 DLC and was sick of the main game halfway through. It looks like a Souls game, but it was missing all the sense of wonder and exploration. I didn't bother with Sekiro because it looks like that same trend exacerbated.

I liked Final Fantasy XV

Uncharted 4 has great combat, just nowhere near enough of it. The game has shit pacing compared to 1-3.

I fucking hate 3D action games like Bayonetta, Devil may cry, Nier Automata, Batman Arkham Asylum. They're all just so damn boring button and trigger mashers. I don't know how else to describe why I hate them.

I don't understand the hype.

All of our activities are a waste of time, but video games will at least you make you stay active and thinking, while Anime usually isn't deep enough for that. At least you're doing something while gaming.

I'm starting to think that dark souls = bad isn't even an unpopular opinion.

This is just an extreme opinion with reductive reasoning. I'm not going to act like gameplay shouldn't be sacrificed for story, but I genuinely believe video games have the capacity for meaningful story telling. Whether we've reached that is a different argument entirely. What makes a good story for a video game compared to a book good? Do you believe video games even have the capacity for genuine storytelling?
