Which version should I play, PC or PS1?

PS1. PC requires mods and it's a pain in the ass especially if you pirate.

Emulation is also just better in a variety of ways. Higher fps, proper visuals, etc.

PS1

All other versions are based on an incomplete version of the source code.

PS4. Unless PC has the same speed and skip encounters options

They fixed bugs that appear in the original PC version for the PS1 version. All other versions are based on the PC version which still has these unfixed bugs. Couldn't give any examples off the top of my head, but the PS1 version is the most complete version of the game.

Emulate or play on original hardware, if emulating use supersampling to prevent the higher detail models from sticking out from the backgrounds like a sore thumb, and maybe a good crt filter if you want, as long as you've got a decent res display (filter in pic emulates the pixel detail and bloom of a crt, not just adds scanlines)

PC is best with remake and reunion and chibi mods. Ps1 ver you have to patch magic defense bug.

same here. I've already put like 30h into it. Gonna play ff9 after

PS1 version definitely has the least compromises. All the other versions have some annoyances that are incredibly hard to ignore. Even the "remasters" on PS4/Switch/Steam still carry these annoyances... It crazy how incompetent the people making these ports are.

PS1 has an awful music bug at the peak of a huge story moment and plays the wrong song.

I've been playing the PS version for a little over an hour and I fucking hate it. Moving with the directional pad is awful, combat is slow and unfair but the worst part is the shitty translation. I can't tell who's talking most of the time during cutscenes and the lines don't seem to make sense in context. I know this is from 1997 and standards were different back then but shit.
