LOL, JUST KIDDING, I'M ON A SUICIDE-MISSION ExDee

See, the main problem with the FF7 Remake isn’t necessarily that it’s bad on its own merits, though it certainly isn’t good either. It’s that it retroactively strips the original game of ANY sense of meaning.

>Barett realizing his anger against Shinra turned him into a monster and gradually returning to his original well-intentioned self
KEKNOPE, SHINRA BLEW UP THEIR OWN REACTORS FOR NO REASON AND YOU’RE TOTALLY IN THE CLEAR. No redemption needed. ExDee.
>Aerith’s Death
NOT TRAGIC OR UNEXPECTED AT ALL, SHE WAS ACTUALLY A MAGIC TIME-TRAVELER WHO KNEW ALL ALONG AND JUST PRETENDED TO BE OPTIMISTIC. This also exonerates Sephiroth from any real guilt in her death since he was also just following ‘DESTINY’. It’s basically assisted suicide now.
>the entire party’s struggles to save the planet
LOLNOPE IT WAS…. “FATE” EXDEE. THE ORIGINAL PARTY WAS JUST FOLLOWING THEIR DESTINY. THEIR INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS AND DRIVES DIDN’T MEAN ANYTHING. They really could have just sat around huffing Nos and playing Halo in Wedge’s mancave and the magic time-jannies would have done everything for them.

tl;dr – ‘Destiny’ is lazy writing. It’s a placeholder for when the writer ‘wants’ something to happen, but was either too lazy or too incompetent to come up with an actual motivation for it. The original FF7 didn’t need it, so its remake shouldn’t have either.

That entire segment where he leads Cloud through illusionary fire was a stall.
His goal right then and there was to prevent Aerith and Cloud from ever even meeting, by leading Cloud down some winding alleys and distracting him with nonsensical bullshit about the two of them saving the planet.

Then those meddling time jannies and their fucking dog foiled his plans by forcing Aerith to stay in the area until Cloud finally did show up.
But Sephiroth, never one to be deterred by things such as fate or making players content with getting the same thing as always, tried to switch up tactics and tried to apply some cryptic warning to Cloud about this girl he just met that makes it sound like she's going to suffer if she hangs around him. Without outright telling him she'll straight up be killed, otherwise the jannies might NOOOOOOOOO him away like they did Hojo.

After that it's just Sephiroth spending an entire game manipulating Cloud and implanting visions of Aerith's death into Cloud's head with the Jenova cells in Cloud's body.

Look Cloud.
This girl dies Cloud.
You're probably responsible. Don't you think?
7 seconds buddy.
7 seconds is how long you have.
Because that's how long it takes the other me to drop from the heavens and ram my big long rod deep into her quivering womb.
All you need to do is save her, Cloud. SEVEN SECONDS CLOUD.

Because if Aerith lives, then Sephiroth wins. That's what he's trying to set up. Because this sephiroth is from the future, as evidenced by the black Advent Children wing and the fact that advent children music plays during that first encounter and literally nowhere else.

The PSP-tier modelling textures don't help either.

>in b4 retards claiming "players know she dies so the characters should too!"
in 3, 2, 1...

The game does everything it can to undermine the emotion and themes that the original game was going for. This game should have been about death, loss, trauma, and the way the characters process it. Instead it's not about anything. It's literary gibberish.

I don't care about graphics, but this is laughably bad. Especially with other major PS4 games, like Spider-Man, Horizon, and GoW.

I live how the dog is actually from FFXIII but noone noticed in any of the threads so far

All of these are non-problems if you play it as a sequel, not a remake. Do not recommend the Remake to anyone who hasn't played the original. Yes, Sqaure lied. I think it's pretty enjoyable as a sequel though. Leagues better than anything else in the compilation for sure

>Because that's how long it takes the other me to drop from the heavens and ram my big long rod deep into her quivering womb.
That's stupid fanwank, the seven seconds is explicitly referring to the meteor.

Actually I saw this pointed out earlier today.

>This also exonerates Sephiroth from any real guilt in her death since he was also just following ‘DESTINY’. It’s basically assisted suicide now.
Oh God, you're right. Please don't tell me he's going to be a party-member by the end.

It's almost like it's a sequel. It's almost like you were supposed to appouch this sequel with prior knowledge. It's almost like events were changed.
Dear god think of the man children when you don't make a remake.

to be fair, I think the cats (and Red) in 7r look amazing. For what it's worth, it's still better than if they looked bad

It doesn't change anything in the original game, retard.

Holy shit that webm... Everytime I see more stuff from this De-Make I die a little more inside. Just cheap and cringe. Definitely not for fans.

It's also Literally 7 seconds between Sephiroth showing up on screen and the Sword piercing Aerith.
Could mean multiple things.

>play it as a sequel, not a remake
Its not a sequel either. AC is a sequel because it clearly happens after the events of the original. FFVIIR is probably the original re-imagined, or then some alternate timeline bullshit. Either way not a proper sequel.

Red looks really bad in some spots though. His running/walking animation is pretty terrible but he's mostly off screen during gameplay so it's hard to notice. I do like how he looks in cutscenes though. By far the biggest crime in the Remake is that he's not playable.

Thing is. The Remake is only for fans.
Since you would understand what the fuck is going on at all unless you had prior knowledge of the events of Crisis Core, FFVII original, Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children.
All which are referenced in the game when they shouldn't be if it was actually a remake.

The game is a sequel.

23 years, Yas Forums.

I waited 23 years for this and they blew it in the last two hours.

JUST PLAY THE ORIGINAL GAME

They've already started rolling this fucking argument out

I don't remember ever seeing that doggo.

Sure, it's not a strict sequel going by that definition, but it's definitely a "you need to play the previous game to fully get it" kinda sequel. Like Deltarune with Undertale.

Indeed, it removes all the characters from any agency, since whatever they do, it was written to happen like that anyway. There's literally nothing at stake.

I think this game will be similar to MGS2. I remember the anger from the Snake/Raiden bait and switch. People eventually realized it really wasn’t an issue and realized it’s one of the best games ever made. FFVII Remake will, possibly, be the same. If they can actually tell a good story from this, most people will probably forgive them for this bait and switch. The game itself truly is fun, a few combat issues aside.

>implying Sephiroth is not the new canon love-interest
There's a reason why Cloud's faggotry is turned up to 11 in the Remake. Calling it now.

Feel free to stay there

The problem is, it's too late now.
Themes are out of the window, we get time jannies instead.

Oh, you know they're totally gonna do that shit.

nah

I love how the Remake is blowing the fuck out of faggot purists.

Want your FF7? it's on ps1.

Lmao faggots.

Some people will still consider shitty writing a problem, believe it or not.

KBrad double-dipping with the shill paychecks. Big time Capcom shill and now SE.

that's cruel user. we had hope. we wanted to believe.

I bought FF7 of PSN after I finished the remake and I still don't like ending, so his logic doesn't even make sense.

They already didn't tell a good story.

I wish pre-rendered backgrounds made a comeback.

well thanks user for finally killing my slight interest with this shit. Crisis core and Advent Children are fucking terrible

Time-jannies are a worse fucking idea than Ewoks.

Attached: demake.webm (626x320, 2.9M)

he's right to be honest
I just come here to shitpost, I won't play the game since it doesn't appeal to me

Don't ask questions, just consume product etc

I can't believe this is actual cutscene in the game. Good fucking god

then you never had interest in the series to begin with.

>SHINRA BLEW UP THEIR OWN REACTORS FOR NO REASON
it was to make the explosion much worse and avalanche would be blamed for the many deaths that wouldnt have otherwise occurred without a bigger explosion

Of course it's a problem. It's not a game breaking problem though. If it is for you you should just be watching Let's Plays instead like most people in these threads unapologetically do

I mean, the Ewoks didn't retroactively ruin anything.

>Tifa: I wonder what Aeris felt... when she was on that altar...?

>Cloud: I'm sure she wanted to give her life for the planet...

>Tifa: Really? I wonder. I don't think that's it at all. I think she didn't think she would die at all, but that she planned on coming back all along. She always used to talk about the "next time". She talked about the future more than any of us...
>Although she never talked about it to us she must've had a rough life... I think Aeris looked forward to tomorrow and the future more than anyone... she must've had many, many dreams.

Do you actually believe that? holy shit you are clueless

Which ruined the moral ambiguity of Avalanche being responsible, you know, one of the good parts of the story.

Which ending> FFVII originals or FFVIIR. If it's FFVIIR's than that wasn't his point. His point was if you hated remake you can ignore it and go back to the original
If you hated FFVII originals then why the fuck you purposely buying games you know you hate?

It's from another game

Fuck off faggot Crisis Core is a fucking melodramatic shitty Gacktfest and Advent Children is absolute fucking nonsense

It looks so fucking dumb, Jesus fuck. I can't believe there are zealots out there willing to defend that level of visual and storytelling retardation.

the problem is, the hints we got are worrying.
Aerith deatj being anticipated *in game* turns it into some heroic sacrifice, when the point of OG was literally to not be a cliche heroic sacrifice death.
I don't think jeroic sacrifices or inescapable predetermined necessities make for bad stories, I can list a lot of these that I found impactful and I rmember fondly. But the fact I can list a lot of these is the problem. Aerith's death was a special case being at the same time senseless and profoundly meaningful.
Can a game be good without it? Surez there's plenty out there.
But is it good enough for a FF7 Remake? I don't think it even fits
