It's the only DMC you can feasibly do New Game runs, which for me starting from scratch and fighting against overwhelming opposition knowing there's certain death through limited lives and resources is the kind of punishment I live for. You pretty much have to use the Sparda costume to get Devil Trigger on mission 1 to be able to take out the basement with the marionettes before they DT in time. Items are fine when you're fighting for your life desu. But all this is if you want the extra mile. Walking up to a group of marionettes and infernoing them to death mission 1 always felt too cheesy to me.

Yes. The evolution of the Style Meter in DMC3 pretty much mandated enemy HP bloat as a necessity. DMC1 is far more "arcadey" than the other in this regard. DMC5 had an interesting idea in that enemies would devil trigger once certain conditions were met but I think it's just best to have it on a timer. Riots basically had 100% uptime on devil trigger and Proto Angelos got absolutely obscene HP buffs once they devil triggered. DT'd Behemoths and go die in a fire.

I honestly really loved Monster Hunter: World's Devil May Cry collaboration. Dante's Devil Sword is Force Edge, Alastor, Ifrit, and the Air Hike rune all in one weapon. Using Dante's arms and loading the Slinger gives you the Nightmare Beta, Guild Card background is the DMC1 enemy roster, and Dante's Gesture makes you do his famous CGI render of holding Ebony and Ivory at the camera to a T. Just about the only "issue" I had with it was the quest using music from the franchise as a whole rather than just DMC1 tracks.
