Thoughts on Dragon Quest XI?

comfiest game of the last decade

The pc version is missing content of the switch version. Im not buying a switch or playing in a lower resolution / framerate just for the additional content. FUCK square enix

not playing this game until it's available on PC/PS5 with switch additions, I refuse to compromise for shit enix

well actually it's a tie between DQXI and builders 2

It was alright, 7/10. I liked builders 2 better.

Best JRPG in recent memory (not saying much).
9/10.

my wife serena cute

Played it on the Switch. DQ2 is still my favorite in the series, but this is definitely up there among my favorites.

Rean's games are better

Dropped it about 40 hours in. Persona 5 (Royal) is better.

>Caring about graphics in a JRPG
Cringe.

I want to impregnate and marry the sister of the loli

I wanna marry and impregnate jade

Fun game, also sort of random but I read Dante's Inferno around the same time as playing this and there were a lot of weird comparisons and similarities between the two which was kind of surprising

it's the best JRPG Square Enix has made this console gen.

i bought this game and got to the jungle park with the lumberjack dog and got bored does it get better

I would include last generation as well.

who cares? only good addition to the switch version is the orchestral soundtrack but you can get that with a mod anyways
also just watch the extra stories on youtube

give a game more than 2 hours

their fault for releasing it just before modern warfare came out

Dragon quest builders 1/2 were better

i got the whale and then couldn't be bothered to continue. maybe i will finish it one day

>DQ1
Yes.
>DQ2
No.

and modern warfare has what to do with it?

Good characters, setting, gameplay and graphics. Hampered by one of the worst "localizations" in video game history as well as an end game that is way too long.

Having played every DQ game, I can say it's somewhere in the middle of my favorite list. Above VI and IX. In many ways, Dragon Quest XI feels like an enhanced Dragon Quest IX. Similar linear overworld, story events and quest system, but not limited by DS hardware. But still nowhere near as good as III, IV, V or VIII. Jade also feels like a vastly improved version of Jessica. But after I played the Switch version with Japanese voices, Serena and Sylv were by far the best characters. Their personalities and story arcs stole the game. Even when they were trying to push Veronica so hard. Which I still liked her too.

that fucking ending. it was so kino.

Turn on Japanese and compare to the English. Like 75% of the context of what's said has been altered. This is way beyond just simple translation. They purposefully altered as much as possible. On the level of something like a 4kids anime dub.

>Like 75% of the context of what's said has been altered
do you have any examples

I would have loved to play the definitive version, but I'm not in the habit of paying kikes for kike practices

/thread

boring except for the mermaid storylone

How was Square-Enix never sued for that shit anyway? I feel as though if one developer actually deserves to get sued for something, it should be that. Just blatantly anti-consumer

-Mermaid script had to be drastically altered to make the rhyming work. A Mermaid will say just one word in the Japanese but the translation stretches it out to four sentences, because of how the rhyming needs to be done. This means they're adding 15-30 extra words into a scene that had only 1 word in the Japanese. No matter how you slice it, both the context and tone of the scene has been altered.
-Same happens in most examples when an accent is added. Especially the Japanese village. In the Japanese, they speak in an "olde" style of Japanese. It would be equivalent to an English character who speaks stereotypical Elizabethan (Shakespearean) English. But they didn't translate them like that. Instead they gave everyone a Haiku dialect, which the Japanese didn't do at all. This again drastically changes the tone of the characters, making them silly in English when that's one of the more serious parts of the game in the original Japanese. But it also means they have to significantly add or subtract words from some characters dialogue, to reach the necessary haiku requirements. Some characters sound like neanderthal idiots while others sound like they're padding their dialogue for no reason.
-Even some characters who have no added accent, they'll add a bunch of crap for no reason. Like some scenes with Vernonica, she'll just make a grunt of anger. But the English translation writes out two sentences of her lecturing a character. Or in pic related, in Japanese she just says "Why are you smiling? Whatever." But the translation team just had to be cute and add some superfluous "British" sounding words and pad the dialogue. You know, gotta cover up the Shounen anime influences as much as possible. No one playing an Akira Toriyama JRPG would want that.
