I had okay time at best when i was sick as fuck and couldn't get out of bed for 3 days earlier this year, but it is a lazy fucking game. Why does the wild zone have a real time day/night cycle but not the rest of the map? The gyms are all copypastas of each other, there is literslly no story between towns. I remember in the old games, there was always something going on in the story that you had to get to the bottom of before advancing to the next gym or town. Here you just go to the next one, fight retarded Hop again, head to route whatever for 10 minutes, then you're already at the next gym.

The game was always aimed at 7-year-olds but the quality was objectively better.

But I like this game. Catching, battling and exploring have been improved. They cut out all the boring shit that no one cares about. They even kept the gen 5 favourites like the ice cream pokemon to appease the zoomer autists. Overall, good fun.

And they took out support moves, moves like Return/Frustration which genuinely add coverage to Normal-type Pokemon which are already pretty shit, team synergy moves like Assist, all of which lowers the skill ceiling of the meta. They should have fused the best pokemon from gen V and VII into one generation and put the best of both games in one. I didn't like Unova's linear form and I didn't like what they did with Sun and Moon's general format. Fusing both into one would've been better imo.

I can see why people were upset with the limited wild areas to find pokemon in the game but I liked the fact they finally made it feel like a real open world with pokemon running around and doing away with shit rng encounters. I was never enthusiastic about the Dynamax mechanic but it is what it is, I guess they wanted to keep as much OP stuff away to keep the game balanced which was obviously another problem in previous games. A lot of pokemon were too OP and lesser pokemon didn't get a chance to be part of teams. No more HM slaves, again good. Getting rid of shit moves is good I think Nintendo really has to think about this though if they're going to keep this kind of format for future games.

Yeah I honestly have no idea how anyone could be satisfied with these games unless they'd never played Pokemon before and were just totally enamored with the battle system.

Even ignoring the fact that a lot of Pokemon and moves were cut out, it's just extremely barebones -- possibly more sparse than even the original Red and Blue, and with none of the good design philosophy that carried those games. You've got ten routes total, no dungeons, and some of those (ten) routes are just straight lines that take fifteen seconds to run across. You don't even get to participate in the evil team plot until the very end, where you seriously just ride an elevator up to a couple pathetic boss fights. It's like someone took the skeleton of a Pokemon game, then threw a slightly more expansive Safari Zone (also something that they've had since Gen 1) on top.

Just about the only improvements were the QoL enhancements, but those hardly matter if you don't care about the competitive side of things. I mean, by no stretch of the imagination are these the first shitty games to have sold well, but I can't help imagining that everyone who enjoys SwSh must be the most easily impressed rubes on Earth (or, again, super young kids, which is way more excusable).
