underrated game, i go back and 100% it every now and then, it's good still
ape escape i think feels pretty rough, i don't like the platforming or just the way the character moves, feels a bit animation heavy and slow. but i love tomb raider so idk
Actually, here's how the list goes
>5: Super Mario 64
>4: Sonic Adventure 2
>3: Crash Bandicoot
>2: Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom
>1: Banjo-Tooie
Banjo-Tooie will never be topped
I never understood the Banjo hype, it's basically a more refined Croc, which is fun for kids but generally not that great.
The thing about Banjo-Kazooie is that it took everything Super Mario 64 did, and made it better; better looking visuals, more music, and a wacky story with memorable characters
Now taks everything mentioned, and out do it 10× better than the last one; you have Banjo Tooie
Banjo-Tooie became a Story driven 3D Platforming FPS Quiz show Metroidvania that outdid the last game, and it's inspiration, by so many miles (Banjo had an N64 sequel)
To refute your point on Croc, it's a 3D Crash Bandicoot with one level 3D games and a bare bones plot with basic humor. Rare went all out with all the sexual innuendos in their games, and they're more memorable as a result
A game to compare Banjo to would be Spyro desu, but even then
banjo also has a better camera than sm64
As someone whose first 3D platformer was Spyro, I don't see it. The aesthetic, concept, execution, polish were on a far higher level in Spyro, and there was some sort of cohesion to the worlds. Banjo looks and acts sort of arbitrary and cobbled together, like if Mario 64 was based on Saturday morning kids' cartoons instead of Mario lore, so neither the setting aspect nor the gameplay aspect are really on a notable level.
I am still yet to play a Banjo game though and I do plan to play them both.
I see, so you grew up on Spyro. I understand your pov, and you're not entirely wrong. But what Spyro did more or less matches up with Tooie, you might find
If you're gonna play Banjo, do it to have fun; not because Yas Forums memed you to.
If you're gonna play Banjo Kazooie, you got OG hardware, Rare Replay, and emulation as your best choices.
You won't regret it!
Loved Banjo as a kid, dislike it now because of the movement and collectathon-ing.
Crash 1 being decently difficult gives it a special place in my heart.
Toy Story 64 was great but I didn't have a memory pak so I could never save lol
I wish there was a way I could see my save files/records for games I played as a kid, I'm fairly sure I beat Crash 1 as a kid but I have no way of actually knowing, and all these discussions about it being super difficult that popped up when the remaster came out have me doubting my memory.
*blocks your path*
overall it's not that hard except for a few parts of 100%, namely sunset vista no deaths and slippery climb, but i've played it a lot
i think the first game still holds up well, tooie is pretty shit though
nobody brought it up but i just wanna say earthworm jim is a shit game
Duly noted
i regard jak and daxter 1 as one of the best 3d platformers ever made
>Gex in god tier
>Croc above Rayman
huh
this
Also serious question, I never played Jak 2 and 3.
Would I enjoy them?
all I know about them is that they time travel and Jak can talk now
>no mentions of super mario galaxy
cringe
If you go in fully aware that jak and daxter 2 is a platformer mixed with a gta game then yes you would possibly like it.
I could never really get into non mario 3d platformers because I feel like the movement isn't as fun. Tried the crash remake and hated it, you just run jump and spin.
later era, and op said no mario 64. but yeah galaxy is one of the best games ever imo, and i only played it first time a couple months ago. and i didn't grow up with nintendo so i have no nostalgia. it's just genuinely excellent
crash 2 opens up a lot more with the slide. i love the movement
youtu.be
specifically see 35 seconds in. the little ice section is sexy
I'll keep that in mind thanks
Is like zoomerism in physical form.
>The thing about Banjo-Kazooie is that it took everything Super Mario 64 did, and made it better
Except the core gameplay.
