Portal 2 is non canonical to the HL storyline as far as I'm concerned. The devs went on record when saying they didn't want to connect the products anymore after the Orange Box, I bet even the Borealis nod was close to receiving the axe.

Why would the combine imprison their own agent?

The G-man is in part responsible for the combine being on Earth since he provided the zen crystal.
Though it is still possible it was necessary for earth to be taken for the combine to have fallen.

Realistically speaking, how long wold it take before some unknown Xen monster comes out and kills Chell on the surface? North America had the worst of the Portal storm anomalies and Xen infestations which is why all the Combine Cities were in Europe and the Balkans, and Aperture is in Michigan North America so.

I'm impressed with Glados if she can keep the combine out.
If only she had a desire to kick them off earth and not simply to test.

No, it would seem his "employers" want the Combine destroyed but either can't or refuse to get directly involved in the conflict. Seeing as how they have stasis, time travel, and pocket dimensions I would assume that Gman's "employers" are some form of greater being like one on a higher dimension or just so advanced they may seem godlike to other beings.

Its perfect. A good ending should do exactly this: Leave it open for discussion, speculation, and theory. The viewer/reader/player in media should not always feel satisfied. Thats the problem with media now is that people dont understand that sometimes that feeling of "why" is better then the constant garbage of "And then the anime hero got a harem of women and lived happily."

The Valve contractor who leaked to VNN in 2016 claims that Laidlaw and Wolpaw had an ending for HL3 figured out that would tie in with the ending of Portal 2.

I really don't think Glados is capable of keeping the Combine out if they wanted to get in. There's pretty good reasons to why they don't show up. 1, Aperture was pretty obscure and irrelevant being a financial and technical failure to Black Mesa in every way. 2, the Portal Storms across the world made them even more irrelevant and coupled with glados killing every employee that knows the place and ex Aperture scientists dying during the Black Mesa incident it fell into obscurity completely. 3, Being in Michigan North America, the continent that had the worst of the Xen infestation the whole surface is probably a death safari with shit even worse than Hydras and Bullsquids all over making a field HQ very hard to establish. 4, the Combine didn't really care about Aperture until their one line to reinforcements was severed and they needed fast portals.

They had to construct a whole tower just to transport shit to earth.

I'd like it if they made a game where you play as Glados or one of her lower management AI and take back America like a RTS game against the combine, and the infection, maybe the resistance also.
Glados needs to take a larger role in the Half-Life universe.

The cores you see in portal 1 were the purple core, the curiosity core, the cake core, and the rage core.

All cores that were put onto glados were in an attempt to slow her thinking or "dumb her down". They achieved this by making the cores fill her mind with random nonsense, like constantlyasking question, saying a cake recipe, or incoherent growling. (Wheatley is one of them but he was attached and taken off before the events of portal one)

They basically tried to retroactively "unoptimize" because she was too optimized

Well even the IRS couldn't find the actual location of Aperture Science, and maybe Aperture has some sort of automated surface security, so i think she i fairly safe as long as she just stays near the site

Giid Half life 2 Combine look so ugly compared ti the Alyx ones. And it's not even about graphics they look so boring wearing fatsuits.

Yeah it's amazing how segmented pauldrons make it look so much better and makes such a difference.

I have a feeling you're from an urban place. However I live in a place with lots of places that look like that and yes it is beautiful and I appreciate it very much.

I thought it was a perfect ending.
I also don't really care to speculate that much about how it relates to half-life.
For me it's just supposed be this moment of freedom and beauty after being trapped in aperture for such a long time.
