Reading the Steam reviews it seems to be extremely buggy and extremely simplistic even compared to the XCOM games.
Outside the usual Stormfrontfags, people complain that the characters act and talk like pretentious teenagers.
Let's wait and see; XCOM 2 was pretty unoptimized at launch and still I got it day one so I'll wait for more reviews before taking the plunge.

The combat is in bite-sized skirmishes on small maps, so I guess some peoole wantes X-Com 3 out of it or something.

Not user, but after watching the 12 minute intro video in the other thread I can believe that someone would be quickly turned off to the characters and general vibe. Took all of 30 seconds watching that video to get a sour taste. I still intend to pirate it because I coomsume. But objectively speaking there is likely some accuracy in there.

This is the thing that makes me frustrated the most. Let's look back at XCOM 1 and 2. XCOM 1 the aliens attack and launch terror attacks and force a world surrender within a few months. People forget about this in 20 years and they think 'oh great aliens are good'. But you notice what they don't see in any of the propaganda? Aliens. All they see are ADVENT (who look human except for their faces which they cover up!) and statues of Ethereals. There's no alien human contact. Why do you think that is? Is it because humans just love aliens so much? No. It's mostly because, as we find out, the aliens are not actual 'real' people. They are tools used by the ethereals in their conquests. Mutons are brutish and unable to be reasoned with. ADVENT has brain chips in them to allow them to be used as pawns in alien chess. The Floaters are biomechanical horrors. Etc. And then we release the information that ADVENT is making human soup to: a) make more ADVENT. Remember that part? And also to make more bodies for the Ethereals but we'll ignore that for now. Also that everything the Elders told them was a lie etc etc gene therapy more like death camps etc etc. This is BROADCAST WORLD WIDE. This is what causes Advent to lose - humanity revolts.

Five years later, haha advent was a laugh, let's elect ADVENT as our mayor let's get them on the XCOM haha no bad feelings about the humans we killed right no bad feelings about the untold horrors we unleashed on the planet and didn't care about because it didn't stop our plans.
