Is there a single D-pad we can all agree is at least decent?

A d-pad is a tool, WHAT are you using that tool for?
For 2D platformers, you want something like this.

And this is also ok tho some people don't like it, personally i think it's a decent d-pad for platformers.

The best

Now, if you're talking fighting games, and you don't want to use a stick, then we're talking this.

I liked the DS3 pad a little more

Or this, essentially THIS shape.
So what is it?
What do you need to use your d-pad for?
The answer is different depending on the genre.

what they achieved when the made this is the work of gods.... even the plastic mold of the controller shell is 1st party in feel & touch.

I dislike holding this controller. Almost like using a claw on your right hand

This. It's not a clicky as the PS4, but it is definitely not mushy. I don't like the discrete buttons of the PS4 (I know internally it's not discrete, but the exposed parts are discrete). The cross feels the best.

I'm seeing this a lot lately, is it really that great?
I managed to practice Ikaruga on this one for some 10 hours before my thumb started to hurt. It doesn't feel ideal for such a game but I was able to clear it this way so it gets points for that, it starts off decently comfortable too

This controller as a whole is pretty amazing, I bought 2 in 2013 and I'm still using them to this date, just had to clean em once every 2 years and replace the battery for each in 2019.

Dpad is bad for fighters imo, but good for platformers

My favorite d-pad is on the newer hori fighting commander. I miss the 4 for being a bit more bulky, but this controller's dpad is a lot longer lasting.

Please help me i am trying to do the path of pain hollow knight and the switch pro d pad is terrible for it, is there a controller with a d pad that at least comes close to pic related? I really like that one but can‘t play docked with it
How was nobody made a knock off controller with that d pad yet?

>I'm seeing this a lot lately, is it really that great?
Shape wise, yes, but the internals are the exact same of the Switch Pro, so it's prone to the same exact problem of misfiring imputs (it has to do with the contacts underneath).
That's because some people just do this with their right hand.
The M30 fixes the ergonomy issues for the most part in my opinion, but then people say it's too small for their hands, so i guess different problems for different people still remain.

I don't remember Dpads being an issue until the 360 showed itself. After that everyone seemed to follow suit.

>How has nobody made a knock off controller with that D-Pad yet?
Sony

Ds phat
Vita
Saturn

That 8 bitdo d pad really sucks I used it for a while trying to get used to it, really loved the idea of this controller but it’s just not responsive enough. The switch pro controller has a far superior d pad much more responsive. Just too bad it’s a little smaller and not in the right spot but, it’s undeniably better. Dammit I really did want to like the 8 bitdo pad, Nintendo should just steal the idea and make a first party one, that would be the best game controller ever.

I heard this shit is pretty good for PC but the D-pad is a little sensitive, is it true?

They have exactly the same input lag, and the same exact internals, actually.
Not only that but the external shell of the pro d-pad is clearly, objectively worse.
So i have no idea what you're talking about.
...wait, you did update the 8btdo with the new software, right?

Is the d pad of the wii u pro good?

Attached: 1569741307759.jpg (1012x547, 42.35K)

No, didn’t realize they update controllers, I don’t have a computer so I can’t update mine, will keep on with the switch pro controller. I hope that update does help the people with computers though, they should remember how bad it was before that update.

I mean, it was better than the Switch Pro in terms of d-pad but definitely not especially good.
I had to play multiple VC platformers on that thing, user.
Didn't feel all that great.

What the fuck has a good d pad then?? I need a controller for my switch

greatest d-pad of all time, no contest.

I think the regular switch pro controller is the best if you can have only one, if you can spend, then a good companion is the wireless SNES controller Nintendo put out on its online store, that’ll cover your d pad needs.

Barley Any 60 fps games

>chinkshit
no thanks

i always found the gamepad to be really comfy. not quite as comfortable as a normal controller, but good enough. i used off-tv play all the time on wii u. meanwhile my switch is perma-docked because the terrible ergonomics, joystick drift, lack of a d-pad and shit performance aren't worth it.

What is this sexy beast and how do I get it?

but enough about the shartch.

I have the switch pro, it‘s pathetic. False inputs all the time and diagonals are borderline impossible

Doesn't stop the Vita being a top tier d-pad.

I was so disappointed by the sub-par quality of the DS4 after using a Vita.

Fuck nintendo. The pro d-pad is only good for menus and the Joycons "d-pad" is just buttons. Who the fuck plays platformers with a stick?

Be honest, you're only saying this because you dislike the country itself. Everyone knows the quality of their consumer tech has jumped up vastly in recent years

best 3 dpads I ever used are the saturn skinny, vita, and neo geo pocket color. I want to get a saturn fat and see if it's better, though.

M30 by 8bitdo.
Keep in mind it's smaller than an actual Gensis controller.
Also don't try to use it for standard platformers unless it's Sonic, it's mostly useful for fighting games.
And if you get it, update it's firmware here:

Psvita
DSPhat

The only good D-pads.

It's a great dpad, but only guilty gear really holds 60 fps, even Spelunky and downwell have prolonged dips.

Shit platform, the dpad is useless, Cerny can't bandwidth, horrible system architect

wat

Yeah it isn’t the best d pad, but it’s the best switch controller if you can only have one to play all games. The most practical, I guess. And it is quite responsive I think your input problems are your finger size, it’s a tiny dpad. I have very thin fingers so it’s okay for me but I can see the problem for larger hands.

You can‘t tell me out of all the 3rd party controllers and others you can connect through an adapter that the switch pro has the best one. There is no fucking way

i actually liked the ds4 (battery life aside) but i don't get why they didn't use the vita d-pad on those. it's even more puzzling that the dualsense doesn't have it either.

Fucking based. How could they make something so perfect and forgot about it?

The game performance for the vast majority of titles is sub par, making the dpad moot.
