The game has good core mechanics but also a lot of flawed things. Most of the complaint were about lack of legendary lords and shit, but fortunately modders were willing to fix that. Then CA come around and unironically fucked up by trying to capitalize on free mods like Bethesda did creation club, and everyone including the Chinese and Korean stops making mods and that basically sealed the fate of 3K.

I like East Asian history but the 3 kingdoms period is just...meh desu. They should have set it just prior to the Mongol conquests, with Mongols, Jurchen , Jin, Song, Tangut, Western Liao etc. Would have been wayyy more variety then.

Compared to launch, unit variety has been improved a fair bit by reworking unit balance and adding a bunch of new stuff and characters. The DLC that expands the main 3 kingdoms period is good. The 194 start is excellent, the 180 one fun but very buggy. Overall it's much improved, but if you didn't like the setting or lack of faction variety at launch, you'll probably still be unhappy.

It's true to some extent. There was a huge flood of bikini mods shortly after launch, as well as sexy or straight up r34 artwork. Grace certainly kicked up a shit storm and did a terrible job of managing the situation, but there's no confirmation if it was her influence that led to CA's clamp down.
1570s starts. Japan is still in the Sengoku Jidai but you've got some big players. Jurchen start to unify soon, Ming are on the decline. All sorts of cool shit that can happen.
