What the fuck happened?
Bionic Commando
Capcom fell for the focus testing meme.
Started as a parody, did a 180 mid production.
GRIN developed an unapologetically FUN game about swinging and shooting with funny-but-not-quite-self-aware 80s action movie drama that underperformed when Capcom’s chopping block was getting lots of use and went from that to contracting for Square-Enix who basically yeeted the developer out of existence. Play this game if you haven’t, OP. It’s genuinely good. I played through it on the highest difficulty and had a blast
You obviously didn’t play it. Nothing about the game feels focus tested, in fact most of it is the kind of batshit nonsense that would get cancelled mid-development these days
It wasn't a bad game but the character design was bad. Should have kept the cheesy 80's vibe and bring back Duke-Fakem.
Game was a lot of fun to play, even if it it went full retard at the end.
>YOUR ARM WAS YOUR WIFE ALL ALONG
>Square Enix wanted GRIN to fax them the source code to the game they were working on
>Play this game if you haven’t, OP. It’s genuinely good.
I just finished it. Besides it being just 5 hours long it was really good.
I was just wondering why there wasn't more of it. Pretty much the first time I've interacted with this franchise beyond MvC
I liked Spencer but pretty much everyone else was forgettable and generic, especially the enemies
>Square Enix kept rejecting their designs for not being ''final fantasy'' enough
>This included a piece of official artwork from FFXII that GRIN sent in with some of their own art
>You obvioulsy didn't play it
You're talking to literally the only person who listened to the Bionic Commando development podcast.
I gotta tell ya guys. Even if Bionic Commando, any of them, were absolute DOGSHIT, I'd still love them because I like games where you can swing around.
I'am also the only person on the board that makes Bionic Commando 09 OC whenever a template thread pops up.
09 is one of the best 3D swinging games and I'm so God damn upset we never got a sequel.
I loved the worm robot boss fight
how do you go from something like this
to fucking THIS
WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING
I recall seeing the 360 version of this game being overpriced in a local store for the longest time.
>He doesn't like Cop Dad Spencer
Ben Judd is an idiot manchild whose favorite game was Bionic Commando and used his influence on Keiji Inafune to get this done.
That's bizarre. This game is always on sale for pennies. That's why I kept buying it and gifting it to people.
On Steam it's definitely at a much more reasonable price, it's just over a decade ago I saw EB Games selling it for something insane like $150 NZD when even newer titles of the time weren't that expensive.
MY WIFE
That game is tight mang.
Yeah the swinging alone made the game good. So good it gave me an itch I don't think I'll be able to scratch. I'm not playing Spiderman games.
That was pretty much the only good boss fight. The helicopter was meh and the rest were terrible
Only SPider-Man 2 matches the same feeling, but I like Bionic Commando's swinging system better.
Insomniac Spider-Man is shit.
>normal hair Spencer
Cursed. I'll try Umihara now that you posted it.
Fuck Spiderman.
>people replaying old capcom games
Noticed threads for RE5, RE6 and even lost planet 2.
>Shinkiro bails
>art goes to shit
EVERY TIME.
It's actually pretty good. It just got held back by a cut budget considering they had to block off unfinished areas with POISON FOG
LP2 had a birthday sometime back.
they're still fun, I've been replaying Tatsunoko vs capcom and Battle Network 3
>console only
Still pissed. Is it actually good?
> Bionic Commando got a bigger reboot push than Darkstalkers
It hurts thinking about it.
I found it fun. It certainly isn't as perfect as Rearmed, and the climax isn't anywhere near as good as the firs tone, but it's till a must play if you loved the first one.
I've noticed too. I just finished playing REmake before I played some enjoyable 5 hours of Bionic Commando.
Makes me wonder how the fuck Capcom managed to kidnap so many of my favorite franchises
