4 is not underrated, you should like it if you liked 1 the most. But it's nothing too new.

No its nothing to new but its got better controls and a deeper endgame.

Also its pretty thin pickings for decent games these days

>Makes xcom look like shit
Um no. VC is too brain dead. Have only played the demo for 4 but I bet you can scout rush the game all the same.

You can't actually. Mainly Assault Troopers I guess. Scouts can't hold the line anymore

>Makes xcom look like shit
Jesus christ.....

4 is pretty much just more of 1. It's fun but didn't offer much of a change but it was nuce to have

The tried to balance scouts with a few nerfs while buffing other classes, a new class that counters them hard, and an armored carrier unit that rushes better than them...but scout rushing is still a cheese strategy

It's still a dumb rush "tactical" game or a real one this time?

There is no Alicia hence the game needs to be puzzled a little honestly the standards slipped a little for an A rank

no one is forcing you to use rush tactics
I remember finishing the first one just fine normally when it came out on PS3, being completely oblivious to the Scout bullshit. My fave class was the shocktrooper because shooting lots of bullets is very fun.

>no DLC where you can play as the absolute CHAD of the game
They even gave us Crymaria and Selvaria with full Valkyria cheese, why stop there?

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 165.72K)

it's the opposite: the Valkyria Chronicles series is shit compared to even the newest XCOM games.
I love the series but let's not pretend it isn't one of the most barebones TBS series ever and we're here only for the anime and the watercolor art.

Alicia wasn't the problem with VC1. Awaken potential was. That's why it's no longer an Order.

>prediction is my grenadier to kill with one shot
>shoot mortar
>hit target on their face
>0 damage

This shit is pissing me off and justifies save scumming.
I will just grab my apc now with a lancer, scout/engineer and sniper inside and just madly rush to the objective, wkth the soldiers hiding inside the apc after they act

So far it never failed and I'm A ranking everything.

>the Valkyria Chronicles series is shit compared to even the newest XCOM games
lol no

Man I mean if your're shooting a lancer with a mortar that's gonna happen. Or they might dodge. Better to shoot them in the back of the head like a real man

lol yes.
Comparing Valkyria Chronicles to XCOM is like comparing Code Vein with Bloodborne: the former is just complete gutter trash compared to the later.

Don't act like the Senran Kagura cretins, pretending that their dead series was the next Ninja Gaiden

You gotta rush if you want a good rank.
Meticulously murdering everyone while taking small damage is fun, but most missions just want you to capture a specific base and you automatically win even though you might end up surrounded even though if you were to end your turn you'd be decimated.

This. Lancers have explosion-proof armor. Grenades and rocked just toss them about.

The end game isn't like that I think. A few hold out missions where you need to murder the shit out of everything

also you lose your best character

I always had a soft spot for lancers and tried my best to utilize them in as many missions possible but the creators dure seem to hate them.

Killing tanks, the only thing they were made to do, gets outclassed by new class that can basically snipe tanks from half a map away and intercept fire grenades.

Being able to shrug off motors is one of the lancers actually advantages, it gives them a little reason to use them

Eh there's one mission you need them pretty bad

>some tanks and trains have their blue weakness on top of them
>obviously meant to use mortars
>hit them on their weak spot, zero damage

Is the grenadier the jankiest class?
Sometimes they work, but sometimes a random shot from the lancer also one hit kills those awkward weak spots..

If you're willing to grind out her potential, vancey can actually outclass

Commander Minerva's smile brightens my day!

There's a few top class. I think if I remember Raz is the best at defending a point?

what?
no, that's a complete lie
I know I got good ranks just playing normally

You are probably retarded. My mortars are tank butchers.

I really want to like Valkyria Chronicles, but the story and writing just piss me off so much. 1 finished on an incredibly stupid note and I dropped 4 halfway through because of some dumb bullshit I've wiped from my memory. Why can't Sega find a decent writer for these games? The setting is cool.

This is the opinion of a retard that vaguely knows about the series but never played 4.

4 got rid of the need to rush entirely, both with more lenient mission timers and more varied objectives.

>Makes xcom look like shit
>Use command on Minerva, she gets the AP Up buff halfway through, and carries the escort target to the mission objective in one turn

Attached: Valkyria Chronicles 4_20181210162453.png (1920x1080, 1.91M)

its not underrated, its underappreciated

that being said, XCOM is still better, the game lacks a bit of tactical nuance i feel

>equip the anti armor mortar
>use the blast radius and damage orders
>cheese the final boss in two turns
Grenadiers are strong as fuck if you know what you're doing, though I still like to use Gertrude as a lancer for long range targets.

I'd just like to add that even in 1, you don't need to Scout rush to get good ranks

And that extraordinary situation is far more fun than missing all your shots at 80% because Xcom "RNG" has to create bogus scenarios to punish and keep players on their toes. Hence why guaranteed damage is and always will be Xcom's most powerful tool.

I cannot fucking believe they've made four of these shitty games without fixing omnidirectional cover. It's so god damn retarded that someone in plain view crouching on the wrong side of sandbags is inexplicably immune to bullets.

I mean Its got exploits but you couldn't actually play within the scope of the game if it didn't. Nothings perfect but its a fun game.

True. Also retard aliens just watch you run up to them and shoot them in the face though

Attached: VC 4.jpg (507x112, 12.27K)

It's probably intentional, forcing you to destroy their cover first or use a shocktrooper with a flamethrower.

u mad bro?

Apparently people are unable to process actual RNG. Its a flaw in our brain or some bullshit. We can't process that the 1 in 5 is as likely as the other 4 every time. That being said I think xcom uses """sliding""" RNG

>Am too stupid to understand game design!

They can't move while you run freely and they wanted big movement ranges, retardo. If cover was directional it would be entirely pointless.

Turn count is literally the only aspect that affects rank.
Only way to improve your turn count is to rush.
Sure, the turn requirements are more lenient, but rushing's still the optimal way to win.

I played the first like, mission in this and it seemed really not great. Like, not a good enough first impression to play more. I've still got it installed though.

Stop being stupid, user. We are telling you that 4 has objectives other than capture bases so your argument about scout rushes evaporates immediately.

Rushing is only optimal if you want to grind money and experience fast. Taking out leaders and tanks for extra exp and aces for their weapons is the optimal way to play, since it's not difficult to clear with an A rank even if you want to kill all enemies.

when you say rush, do you mean Scout rush, or just playing as efficiently as possible without using the scout rush?
because all I've been saying is you do not need to Scout rush or even know about it to hit the turn requirements to get good ranks.

On everything but the hardest difficulty, xcom fudges the numbers in the player's favor.

I got A ranks all throughout the first half of the game just playing normally, using all classes. Maybe you are just bad.

Clearly, but there are so many better ways to solve this problem which would've added depth and nuance to the game. Instead shooting for perfect ranks devolves into totally degenerate strategies of how you can clear capture points as stupidly as possible. Omnidirectional cover means flanking is meaningless.

Yeah I'm mad. This whole series makes me mad.

It's retarded game design. It makes no sense and actively reduces tactical depth. Also, big unrestricted movement ranges are the most glaring flaw in VC1 and VC4. And really it's a known problem which is why mortar overwatch fire was added, but that didn't fix the fundamental problem because it basically doesn't work on enemies and it's random.

When I played VC1 on the PS3 years ago, it was the only game like itself, which is part of why I liked it. The feel of actually moving your soldiers into position, manually aiming their weapons, and driving the Edelweiss made the game a unique experience for me.
