I just wanted modern xcom apocalypse where I can design my swat team, using different mods people made, and barely surviving crazy fights while trying to maintain peace in shithole city. But now we're never gonna get that, all we get is generic pre-made boardgame xcom where your characters are never in any real danger.

Its set after XCOM 2, meaning XCOM originally lost in 1 and won in 2. The idea behind it is simply "There are a lot of aliens who were brought along and got left after XCOM killed the Elders. These are their stories. DUN DUN"

I was interested until I saw that you can't let characters die, and they're all unique.

A large part of the appeal to XCOM is the fact that characters can get killed if you're not careful, and this takes that away.
