Make a third game of an incredibly popular franchise

>make a third game of an incredibly popular franchise
>the decisions the devs made are so terrible there won't be ever a new game ever again

Why couldn't they just make a traditional fighting game for once? Fighting game is already a niche genre, let alone an arena 3v3 one

to appeal the casual audience

>Cries in PSP
I want my combat back
Fuck off Poop Enix

>golden sun dark dawn
it hurts

Dissidia 012 was a massive upgrade.
Combat wise and item wise.

Why did SquareEnix lose interest in making these games? Was there not enough sales

I literally just wanted a single player game

They wanted to have and eat 3 cakes at once - e-Sports audience, arcade audience and existing Dissidia audience.
The first one fucked off early, the second one was a success for first 2 years then dropped off hard once new Gundam game came out, the third one hated it from launch because it got alienated completely.
Enjoy suits being retarded suits.

>Be me
>Have full EX Gauge
>Happy_face.jpg
>Enter Ultra super power mode
>mfw I end up with four blue butter knives

All they had to do was take Dissidia Duodecim and make a grand console version. Instead we got an extremely watered down variation of an already limited (but incredibly fun) system with tacked on 3v3 that would ensure long wait time for matches or miserable AI allies. The original Dissidia's release was beyond hype, and NT completely shat on that with one of the most bland and boring games possible.

>Dissidia 012 was a massive upgrade.
>Combat wise-
>Assists and all the terrible shit it implies like breaking out of combos for free at high levels
>The other way to use EX Gauge also lets you break out of combos and gives you a combo for free
012 had a lot of fun new characters but it played like shit, even worse than the original in all of its airdodge spam.

>breaking out of combos
I think there are rulesets preventing this.
Time to pick it up to remember.

I liked the assist system to prevent the dodge spam, by giving opportunities for a punishing hit.

>EX Gauge also lets you break out of combos
But this will consume your EX Gauge in exchange which is a fair trade-off.

The dodge spam and hit-and-run mechanics are the big drawbacks for sure.

I used to play the fuck out of 012. Replayed it fall 2019 last time, it's still my favourite fighting game.
I also liked the visual part a lot, all of this wing silhouette stuff has something to it. And the game world being somehow connected to FF1 was nice, even though it's a little bit KH thing
Too bad they decided to make that NT garbage

Square Enix got greedy. Online only meant that it served as DRM since Dissidia was super popular and got pirated a bunch, they could get the PVE and PVP players both at once with a multiplayer-focused game, they didn't have to put effort into a single-player campaign, and could get the arcade audience as well as the console audience.

casual audience aren't into this which is why it's failing though user

But Dissidia NT is more streamlined into being a fighting game, it got rid of the RPG mechanics and streamlined characters into roles instead of them having vastly different and crazy gimmicks.

NT would've actually be fucking good if they retained the same movesets from Dissidia 2.
Instead they gutted literally everyone.

The Ex mode removal hurts especially.
So much potential around this was lost

Square Enix cannot make a good new game.

They desperately wanted the game to be on e-sports. No seriously they even had Max promote for them.

Only the first two games exist. Post mains.

>Final Fantasy IX STILL doesn't have a third character yet

Vivi was planned (his entries were datamined) but the game got cancelled due to sales tanking so gg.

>Vivi's quote from IX is "Maybe we don't exist."
>his DLC doesn't exist

Pottery.

Generally in terms of datamined characters, everyone from 012 had a placeholder slot (and was proven legit by Tifa's existence taking up the placeholder Tifa slot).
There was also going to be another FF7 character, based on the manikin entry it was Zack.

I'm pretty sure the original Dissidia being so good was a total accident on Squeenix's part

>Still taller than Zidane

Yas Forums even tried to defend this utter piece of trash.

I understand Locke is the male lead for FF6, but why the fuck didn't they choose a character with a unique playstyle from 6? Edgar with his tools would have been cash. Or what about Gau, who's gimmick is entirely customization movesets with a huge pool of options?

Dissidia is a shit spinoff series. Shitty games are shitty - who could have known?

Arena fighters such as Virtual-On, Gatcha Force, PSP Dissidia duology, and Gundam Versus series are fun. I fucking hate tourneyfags since they fool developers into thinking they can get away with providing the bare minimum in regards to content. The appeal to the tourneyfag and e-sports crowd is why Dissidia NT was a flop with no content.

Should've been Celes, desu. You could probably do some cool moveset shit with Runic.

>Completely blocking enemy magic attacks and absorbing them
Yeah, but in terms of gameplay in 6 she's a Terra clone, sans Runic. They're basically indistinguishable in terms of stats, weapon and armor pool, and natural abilities.

Very, very few people in Squeenix have any idea what they're doing or what players want. The company needs a purge from top to bottom.

I think what hurts all the more is I genuinely liked seeing what got added to NT. I loved the way characters and stages looked in it, and some of the remixes accompanying new characters were pretty fucking cash. (Not so much for returning characters though admittedly)

I hope to god they do give Dissidia another shot some day, but at least recycle NT's assets for it because that's such an enormous waste of resources and development time otherwise.
