Because the voice acting is bad, and the scene is intentionally annoying instead of subtle and contemplative. Tidus is a character written for a specific subset of early teenage angst and melodramatic acting out that is unfathomable to people outside that age range, and embarrassing to people who lived through it. Making him intentionally shrill on top of angsty does not help endear him to the audience, and the scene is written and performed perfectly to be bathos.

You guys are fucking stupid. This is a scene that is solely for Yuna. Three key aspect- 1. She actually learned to whistle and she is proud to show Tidus that she has learned something that connects the two of them together. 2- She is trying to cheer Tidus up despite the fact by all accounts, she should be telling him to suck it up. So what his dad is Sin? She’s on a quest to kill herself. She could be a total bitch about his menial problem, but she’s not. And not only does she cheer him up, she joins in. And 3- it gives us a peek at her inner feelings, hinting that whenever she’s smiling, maybe she’s actually hurting behind it. This scene is fucking beautiful and it develops Yuna in the most subtle way. If all you got from it was HAHAHAHAHA the. You are fucking retarded and should stop playing RPG games.
