Do you guys realize that this is going to be the last non-VR generation right?
Do you guys realize that this is going to be the last non-VR generation right?
I doubt VR will make substantial gains in the next generation to where it becomes essential hardware. 2 though maybe
what you mean VR is on the ps4,pc, and technically on the switch aswell
You guys realize that this is the last console generation of xbox right?
>VR is still incredibly niche
>Games that port to it are notably worse than when played with a traditional controller
>New titles are basically minigames
>In nearly 10 years, the only worthwhile games are a light gun shooter about a psychotic dog, a generic shooter and a return of a series after 13 years and it's a spinoff that doesn't advance the plot from a cliffhanger and actively disrupts the original classic games.
VR is never going to be anything nor than niche fringe stuff, kept alive by porn
>non VR
I'm pretty sure if it goes the way those companies want it's going to be the last true generation period. They most likely don't want to make hardware, they would much rather you subscribe to their shit services and pay them monthly without having to invest millions into hardware research and console production.
YOU guys do realize this thread is gonna die and I'm gonna laugh about it?
If VR was going to take off, MS would have added support in the next Xbox. They could have easily followed Sony if it was worth doing but have chosen not to
The problem is VR's bulk combined with no individual digit controller yet. It needs gloves. It needs better resolution. It needs better optimization. It needs, it needs, it needs, it needs...
And the reality is, no one gives enough of a fuck about vr to sink anything more into development. Its last hope was the index, and look at the absolute pos that is. Absolutely zero innovation. VR is unhealthy for videogames as a medium and needs to perish so resources are poured elsewhere. If you have a vr headset right now, you'd toss it out if you gave a fuck about videogames and their future.
Continuing from this, its not just that its unhealthy for the industry, its monsterously hard to balance gameplay around. Do you have any idea how much it costs in dev time to work with vr for just balancing? Indiviual player height, room size, fullbody or not, headset latency, controller latency, base station latency, hot advantage, peeker's advantage, the list goes on. VR will never good for competitive gaming because of too many variables. Vr will never be good for causal gaming because of performance issues. Vr will never be good period. It baffles the mind howmit has survived this long on porn and beatsaber. Honestly, the most enraging thing about it is people defend the goggle effect and say you'll get used to it. Its insane. I've never witnessed such strong denial. It wouldn't be so bad if the cost of the system itself wasn't so abhorrent. The tech it uses has been around since the fucking 90s.
Further on, lets talk about the player's health. You cannot tell me this shit doesn't damage your eyes. The lenses are almost like perscription glassesnwith how they deform your eyeballs over time and will fuck your depth perception like the virtual boy did. Now look, i'm all for people doing what they want with their money, but the reality is that companies don't give a fuck to improve VR because idiots are fine with how the system is now. You want accurate, non-point based fullbody tracking because its 2020 and you expect current gen to be able to mocap, y'know, in real time? Like hollywood has been doing for 30 years? Well fuck you! You get the universe's most ineffcient method with point based trackers that have the battery life of a chinese smart phone. The whole fucking rig is a scam because htc, oculus, valve, they all know you will pay for it!
Microsoft should stop making consoles
It has a niche that it fills well.
It won't replace gaming on a monitor for me but there are certain games that I just cannot go back to playing on a flat screen anymore even with TrackIR which I have.
Primarily cockpit sims, despite all the sensory limitations it is sight and sound is enough to give me a good sense that I am present in the aircraft/vehicle that just cannot even compare on a 2D monitor with low FoV and no good 6DoF/stereo vision.
I have the vive and it is for the most part picking up dust because the resolution sucks. The Field of view is sufficient and not distracting to me but the low pixels per degree really puts a damper on flight simming for me because I can't identify shit without HUD markers that reduce immersion.
Exhibits in VR are fucking great.
Shooters not so much because of the locomotion which doesn't feel natural regardless whether teleporting or sliding around. The gunplay and interactivity is more interesting than using M+KB if done well like with H3VR, even then I don't find it that detailed enough.
Hell in flight sims I was always curious how effective using motion controls only for instrumentation and it was surprisingly effective but still doesn't beat throttle+stick, however it open up the possibility of interacting with other instrumentation naturally without awkward bindings that you have to memorize. VTOL VR did this well however it can still be improved.
I want to keep using my joystick you retain hand tracking using something like a leap motion that way you don't have to wear gloves which would not feel comfortable when grabbing a physical joystick.
I took a risk on the pixmax 8Kx because of the massive FoV paired with 4k per eye giving a huge ppd that will be unrivaled by anything commercially available for order except for perhaps the reverb G2.
Can't wait to try flightsimming, virtual theatre watching and even trying a virtual multimonitor setup in VR since fine text will finally be easy to read.
In conclusion, I'll leave you with this for future consideration. VR isn't going anywhere. In the sense that its neither improving, nor losing ground. Its doing the worst thing a piece of tech can do. Stagnating, yet still being consumed. It was the same problem with 3D television. No improvements were made and people realized it was fucking stupid anyway. It coasted along until monitors and games just stopped supporting it. Its the curved television fad, but it just won't die. Not while people like valve are so far up their own ass with the success of half life alyx. That game did the absolute worst thing it could fucking do. Succeed. It delayed VR's inevitable death by years. Do you realize how fuck damaging that is for the medium? For something to succeed even when its shitty? Remeber how much damage halo's success was for fps? Remember how much portal's success was damaging for video games as a whole? Remember how much damage steam did for consumer's rights? VR is worse.
oh noes, so the console police shows up and takes away all the older consoles?
PSVR sold worse than ringfit adventure on more than twice the install base you dumb faggot
Most developers and gaming sites have realised that there's no money to be made in VR
They haven't chosen not to they just haven't announced it yet officially. They're literally making a headset right now in collaboration with steamVR and HP which only makes sense if they plan on supporting it officially somewhere down the line.
>it's been 4 years since the oculus was released
>VR is still niche
>comparing a fucking 80 dollar excercise game to a 150-200 dollar VR headset
this is the most retarded comparison ive seen on Yas Forums yet
why arnt you comparing it to Nintendo's VR attempts?
it advances the plot for roughly one minute thank you very much.
>one game selling more than a platform
thats not a good sign user
>Grand Theft Auto 5 sold more than Ringfit
ohnononono ringfit bros i guess excercise games are dead
The next big MMORPG that goes on VR will dominate gamers for the next generation similar to WoW.
I bought a 3DTV
Fool me once...
There will absolutely be a massive, multi-billion dollar push for Virtual Reality this coming decade.
3DTVs didn't catch on because it's too inconvenient to wear glasses.
How fucking inconvenient is it to use VR gear compared to that?
Ringfit is just a game. It's not an entire platform like vr is supposed to be.
yeah a game that has absolutely no relation to VR except motion controls
wich makes your comparison rather stupid
>3d audio
People still playing with gamepad controllers are monkeys.
The cellphone screen you're tapping on right now is much worse for your eyesight and health than vr goggles are.
