Is Final Fantasy VII Remake actually introducing new people to the series?

Not only that but many of those people will give the original a shot.

My friend is doing that right now.

I've never played any Final Fantasy except FFXIV because they're either too old or don't interest me. The setting of FF7R seems interesting to me so I'm gonna play it when it comes out on PC.

I played FF7 for the first time 3 weeks ago and stopped by the time i got to the church with Aerith because of the fucking dialogue.
So much dialogue in that fucking game. Near endless dialogue about a story i dont care for, so i had to stop. The actual gameplay was not good enough to keep me.

Meanwhile the FF7 remake's gameplay looks like alot of fun, so fuck it i'll buy it when it hits PC. Again i really dont care about the story, i'll only watch cutscenes that have Jessie in them and maybe Aerith, Tifa can screw off

>don't care about the story
>in a JRPG
Well you might as well stop now

no they wont

Final Fantasy is already mainstream as fuck, so who cares.

the gameplay is fucking good, it's like a better version of Xenoblade

Yeah, nobody here on Yas Forums would be old enough to play the game when it came out. Most people experienced it through let's plays at most.

it's not like the remake gives a single fuck about story

zoomers won

Probably. Hear me out. I forget when exactly I discovered FF, but I looked JRPGs, and every western faggot talked about how great the series was and the best game ever argument was always between OoT and FFVII. Then I played KH, marginally knew of the series through it, and thought the FF characters were cool. So, in my mind, FF was an absolute masterclass of JRPGs with engrossing gameplay and awe-inducing stories.
I played XIII as my first FF. It was shit.
I meet a girl who is into FF, VII being her absolute favorite game ever alongside NieR, and begs me to play it. I was now weary of it, seeing as she also loved XIII, and thought if it was more of the same bullshit then she was crazy. I like OoT, but it is overrated. I give VII a shot. It's okay. Slow-ish gameplay, an amazing system in materia, shit tier character models in the overworld totally overshadowed by the majestic environments, cool graphics in battles, okay story and characters. I wasn't disappointed, I was just confirming my bias that it was impossible it was as good as everyone said. And I played the PS4 version, and before anyone says anything, the only "abuse" I ever did was putting the game on x4 speed to grind. I did all the superbosses, got the best weapons, got Yuffie and Vincent, and was fucking destroying shit by using Knights of the Round and mime. Then I played XV, which was really bad. Then I played IX last year, which has been my favorite. And right now, I'm enjoying the Remake far more than the original.
My point being: I am sure many people know of FF through word of mouth and because the series is the most popular and worshiped JRPG in the west. So a modern FF that they enjoy will push the curious to try out the old ones.

lets plays? Oh please, most people on Yas Forums only knew about Cloud and Squall from Kingdom Hearts. I remember a thread where someone was asking if "Leon's game" was any good?

Which series? Because Final Fantasy ended with 9. Everything since has been trend-chasing garbage wearing the Final Fantasy brand like a clown mask.

Yes I would argue a least half of the people playing FF7R never played the original. Its over 20 years ago at this point. Teens who don't want to play old games and non-jrpg fans are jumping all over it.

i'm 36, i was in high school when the original came out

My 8 year old just beat it and I told him the original is better but he’s “afraid to spoil it”
I said stop being a bitch and play it

NO, its introducing Kingdom hearts shitters to Nomuras compilation Fanfitcion.

This is what a lie looks like.

Of course it is, why do you think Yas Forums is so upset?

I was 4 when it came out. I started playing vidya at that age but I only had Nintendo shit, my first console was the N64, never owned a PS system until 2006, I got a PS2 to play Kingdom Hearts. I knew it was backwards compatible, but I couldn't be bothered to hunt down discs of the original game, everywhere I looked cunts would be selling it for fucking 100 dollars and shit, and I wasn't paying that. Then I got into MGS via fucking Egoraptor, and started wondering they didn't make a collection like that of the PS1 games.

I bought the original a few years ago but only played 8 hours in. I'll play it again after I finish hard mode in remake.

I was going to post something nasty, but I figure being you is punishment enough.

Yas Forums can't stop coping

Bump

Yes but they'll never play the original. Like with REmake2 and 3, they'll just play them and defend any changes made since the idea of an old ps1 game having more merit is inconceivable. At most, they'll watch a 5 minute comparison video and believe they've got the "definitive" version of a game instead of an "alternative".

Of course I'm speaking generally. It's good seeing some fags here specifically show interest in experiencing both after being introduced.

I'm doing that right now. It still holds up pretty well and I'm enjoying it. But, compared to the Remake, the game seems to be going at blinding speed. Before I knew it, the plate had already collapsed and I was in the Shinra building. Is the whole game like this or does is slow down a bit later?

It's not a remake, it's a sequel.
If you did not play the sequel and at least watch Advent Children you have no idea what is going on.
Zoomers won't play the original because everything on it is slow and most of the game is incredibly weird.

they only cared because it has pretty graphics.

>I've never played a FF game before
He is the voice of all CHANGEGOOD bandwagoner turds.

I played the original first and the entire remake was a slog for me. I guess it's whatever version you play first.

Yes, all the people who pretended to like the game but never played it now can since its pretty now.

Hmm, once you leave Midgar you'll feel the pace slow down.

Nah, the beginning part in Midgar is very fast and has a lot of stuff crammed in, it's not surprising that they picked those 5 hours to expand into a full game.
The rest of the game is more slow paced in that you're just exploring the world with only occasional main plot stuff happening, but there's still lots of stuff going on so it's never boring.
Enjoy the game user, hope you liked the Remake too.

New people seem to adore it which is baffling. They almost seem to think the messy and incomplete story is a virtue?

>girl likes Nier
Assuming that's Nier 1 she has surprisingly good taste.

I don't think the Remake is as unfriendly to newcomers as people think. I don't think there are many people who don't know who Cloud and Sephiroth are, and Aerith's death is probably one of the most well known scenes in vidya. So while they might not understand all the plot points, they're probably just happy to learn more about these characters.

Where is the story losing you? Its part 1 of an ongoing story that has time travel we all know how that shit goes by now, even people who have never played the original know what to expect from time travel shenanigans
