I'm making a game inspired by Lain about internet and its dark and stranges places. What do you wish to see in such a game?

portfolio?

The story should be up to player interpretation and has to be put together like a puzzle.

Cool style

I think one of the more interesting aspects of the internet that wasn't nearly as big when Lain came out is all of the personality cults it has spawned. You know, people who only became famous after putting out content of youtube or social media. One of the things Lain focused on was how it's really hard to know who someone is over the internet since you usually don't know much about them, but now it's considered normal for people to post about intimate thoughts and feelings, but obviously that doesn't mean everything we see now is true any more than the past...

What is much closer to the truth is the information and data big companies have on most people. If a group or individual wanted information on someone, and I don't mean credit card numbers, but likes and dislikes, fears and hopes, and stuff like that, they would know it exists somewhere but that information couldn't be traded openly. Maybe a place like that does exist somewhere out there,

A lain flavoured "N-No we're not a suicide cult we just believe in vr reincarnation" cult

species?

what's your plan so far?

fwiw when I think of what a Lain game would be, I usually think of Yume Nikki and it's various fangames, they're a pretty interesting brand of weird

why my peanus weanus of course :)

I can be an ideas guy.

>tfw i couldn't join that death cult because i didn't have anything to draw a picture with

Attached: 1585919687393.jpg (659x637, 67.79K)

… no, dude

You're literally asking for ideas so you obviously need one

>tfw joined early and shitposted so hard I got banned from their discord server as it fractured
Probably a good thing in the end, fuck discord. The site died about a year ago, only an archive left.
I met two people from there again in vrchat by chance and panicked when one walked up and used my registration number and not my name.

Fuck you dude I hope you waste a shit bunch of time on this and come up with nothing and quit after today.

What genre what engine?

Open world third player arpg, my own written in C++

I'm not the OP :( I just think the whole idea guy thing is not a legitimate position, you'll need to be more hands instead of shouting ideas in the background as it's all about the execution

Yeah I heard it went to hell.
The whole thing had weird bad vibes right from the start.

user I can’t code or draw or make music but I have really gud ideas! I’m a big ideas guy and I can really help with my cool ideas.

>Lain was about the Internet
Wrong.

Visual Novel in Ren'py

Stuff to fuck with the player. Think of Eternal Darkness sanity effects or things like where the player had their memory card read and had to switch controller ports, etc. in the Psycho Mantis fight in MGS1.

Dude, it's your idea, if you're passionate about something, maybe start with yourself so you don't take credit over another user's idea

No prior gamedev experience
It's definitely will be up to player interpretation. I hope we will make it click in the end. Maybe we won't
We have that one. Almost spot one
There are no friends in our internet
Good food for thought
There's plenty of ideas already, enough to finish the game. I just think if you make game about internet you should ask internet what it'd like to see
Plan is to keep developing until it's finished lol. I really like Yume Nikki and it's definitely one of inspirations in terms of atmosphere. You can say it's similiar in terms of gameplay too, but for example our game is in first person. And instead of game there's browser

What kind of game

dude, I'm not the OP, here's my reasons summed up in regards to the idea guy, don't get so heated over a two word reply riskology.co/idea-guy/

Photos of your mom with her clothes on but good luck finding that lol

For a little while the vibes were a mix of exciting and comfy. As usual though, schizos that wanted power trips or girls supported by simps ended up as mods and tore it apart.
To let you in on a secret since I'm not sure how well documented the whole thing was, Tsuki made probably a bare minimum of $20k in bitcoin selling 'data transfer storage space' to idiots wanting to take their manga to LFE. He also shitposted relentlessly and blame it on his friend he 'made a promise with to always share my pc so he logs in with remote access while im busy and spams "NIGGER NIGGER DICK CUMM URGRHRGH" in the discord lole sorry'.
I only stayed by then to talk to like two guys and thankfully, I still know them. Everyone else I lost contact with.
>We have that one. Almost spot one
Make sure it begs you for crypto or your anime won't come to the afterlife.

How do you think of my idea of a story
>Takes place in the distant future
>Aliens have attacked earth and deemed humanity as cancer
>Snowy Atmosphere (Don't know too much science to know to reason this.)
>Humans have started using alien technology to unlock psychic powers - But it only works on kids
>Using these psychic powers, they summon their ancestors from modern times (usually a dead parent because they have to summon their soul)
>In modern times, they keep getting teleported back and forth between the alien warfare and modern times.
>Main character gets survivor guilt and doesn't get together with the main love interest as he pushes everyone away

Good or bad? Ask me for more details.

this sounds fun
can I join

>When you mistaken another user as the OP
heh

>inb4 this will be OP's game after 5 years of full time development

>Implying it won't just stay in OPs mind and be forgotten after today

>Tsuki, when are you updating the site?

you fucking retard the wired is literally the internet

?

How much software development experience do you have? If you don't have much experience with larger projects and how to design them you'll go insane. If you don't then start small

A deep hidden puzzle that needs a lot of work to figure out and the reward is the GNU+Linux copypasta.

Why do creators think they can create a masterpiece on their first try?

What can you do?
Actually it's in the making for 3 years now
Easier to imagine this, than actually do, but I get you

Thanks for the snippets of info user. The whole thing had me curious but in retrospect it's something I'm glad I had no part in, I think.

>Actually it's in the making for 3 years now
Proof please, user

Cognitive bias. They see others create masterpieces and in purse of self-realization pursue the idea. Meanwhile, they don't realize how much experience one needs to succeed.

>3 years making

Even to the point that the secret sauce that made Lain and the destruction of the border between the wired and the real world was built into IPv7.
But of course you can argue it's not ABOUT the internet. The story is about how we are connected at a subconscious level through many different mediums BUT are becoming increasingly DISconnected from each other physically and emotionally. Favoring the praise of anonymous avatars and arbitrary groupings over friends and family. Lain was created to accelerate this phenomenon and use it to break the border of reality, but she decided that sucked.

Literally a ARG, you don't even need to make a game

Attached: lain.jpg (522x522, 116.21K)

>no prior gamedev experience
you should start by making a clone of an arcade game like Space Invaders and then make the next smallest idea you can think of. You will likely not finish this game.

Has anyone played that SEL ps1 game?

yandere dev...

>implying he even started
ahahahahahahahahHAHAHAHA

lain is trash tho
