What happened to Gears? I played this for a dollar on Game Pass and I'm still mad. I want the old Gears back from before Gears 3 shit all over the series. No bullet magnetism, no team death match and maps that aren't just scattered, wide open pieces of cover.

Gears 4 had goat multiplayer. Before that I'd play the campaign and multi for a week and get tired of it. Gears 5 had a decent campaign but I dont like what they did with the multiplayer.

"The Coalition" is lame

Gears 4 is the tallest midget among the team deathmatch era of Gears. Far better than 3 and 5 but it still has the same core issue of wide open maps which devolve the game into peekaboo and running up behind people in place of using coordination to control the map like the first two games.

Your fucking retarded. Gears 1-3 and gears ultimate are the only good multiplayer gears. 4 and 5 are zoomer trash.

Gears 4 MP is better than all of those except 2

>Gears 3 is good
>Gears 4 isn't
Effectively the only difference is Gears 4 didn't have all the stupid loadout options of Gears 3 making it far better.
>Calling people zoomers while defending deathmatch Gears
Poser.

low iq pajeet shills. no one gives a shit about gears 4-5 and xbawks one

nice argument

Give me your analysis of why Gears 3 is better than Gears 4, I'd love to know how you reached that conclusion when stylistically it's the same game with the same flaws minus loadouts.

all the new characters look like they were made to appeal to zoomers but i don't think zoomers are play gears

they're all good

Gear 4 and 5 feel like call of duty or someshit it completely changed the feel of the game. You cant even fucking 2 piece anymore and wall bouncing feels off, whoever the new company is killed the series.

Based af, i couldnt agree more.

Yeah you've never played 4 or 5,you look stupid to people who've actually played it

Gears 3 was the catalyst of taking ques from Cawadoody. Without CoD you wouldn't have loadouts, open maps and team deathmatch. You can't tell me a game doesn't feel like Gears while defending asymmetrical gameplay. Gears 3, 4 & 5 are all shit but at least they had the common sense to take loadout options away.

What’s wrong with team deathmatch?

I don't mind TDM but Ive always liked Execution and Warzone better, respawn modes in gears kinda suck

What does Yas Forums thinks of the story?

The trademark of Gears was Execution, it punishes you hard for mistakes, makes each player valuable and adds to the strategic nature of the game where you have to properly balance which players go where to control the map and power weapons. On the other hand Team deathmatch quickly devolves into running around shooting each other in the back.

It wouldn't be such a big deal but the maps from Gears 3 onward have been sacrificed to accommodate it, they're now all open ended arenas designed around being able to get the jump on people from any piece of cover whereas in the first two games you met the other team in the middle and knew where you stood with no enemies behind you for the initial power weapon struggle.

It also takes players away from Execution since in the first two games you had to get good or not play, now people just stick to TDM and the safty net of respawns

2 out of 5; not enough Marcus giving the zoomer cast grief

Yeah i agree 3 was when the series started to go to shit, but its nothing compared to nu gears.

Gears 3 is nu-Gears. If Execution isn't the most popular mode then its not classic Gears.

Why do you think 3 is better than 4?

I played a fair bit of it when it was free for a week recently and enjoyed it. I played a lot of 1-3 back in the day but hadn't touched gears in 6+ years, never tried it on pc before. It felt really natural to get back into and plays beautifully on kb+m. The core gameplay is still very satisfying and fun, it's a pretty unique combination of quick movement and instakill weapons with map control using lancers/etc.

I enjoyed it but that's because I enjoy the gears formula, everything 5 added felt like a step back. The new weapons are all functionally the same as old ones or are totally useless, no beast mode and horde feels like a shitty mobile game with cards and leveling up. The new enemies are fucking awful and so boring to fight against, reskinned autistic baby locust and robots. It reminds me of the newer halo games that added robots that looked terrible and were not fun to fight. Not to sounds like a total edgelord but gears has always been about the gore: gibbing someone into wet chunks or chainsawing them in half made the combat feel weighty and satisfying. Shooting a tin can until it falls over is the opposite of that

To top it all off, it feels like a free to play game with lootboxes doled out based on playtime and literally no progression based on player input. Just sit in front of the game for x amount of time to get a lootbox that'll give you some stupid fucking banner or spray and rarely an incredibly ugly skin for a gun or character. You can't unlock a single character in the game without paying for them or getting hundreds of lootboxes, it's absolutely disgusting. I probably would have actually gotten the game just to play gears again with a somewhat alive playerbase but the monetization is so insulting

Esports

Single player wise gears 5 is great.
>Gets back to the locust and into their origins
>Treats existing characters with respect and fun scenes
>Has a lot of lore stuff for people that read the books and wanted to see more of the UIR

The marketing was shit. Kait isn't some bitch the entire game. She gets mad at JD for lying about ordering a massacre and then makes up. I liked her and the whole squad had good banter

Gears 3 was the middle ground between appealing to the old players and trying to bring in new, casual players but i do agree with your point somewhat. It was the beginning of the end

>Gears 4 had goat multiplayer
stopped reading

gears multiplayer is tighter than it has ever been
I don't like the gnasher tweaks every month, otherwise fake gears fans can suck a duck

>You can't unlock a single character in the game without paying for them or getting hundreds of lootboxes
You can, but it's so extremely tedious and time consuming I'd rather just play as one of the ugly default characters. The unlockable characters are shit too. Gears 4 has just about everyone whereas Gears 5 is just a random selection.

Ended with 3, mate.

4 is totally skippable but what 5 is doing with the locust I find interesting actually. You start to learn what the fuck they are and it's not like bungie tier shit. It makes sense with what we've known before and is like its the same studio

We already knew what the Locust are, user.
It was scattered in the books, comics and collectibles in the games, but it already existed..

It's kinda bothered me that Gears 4/5 have less content (after DLC) than 3. GoW3 is a fucking awesome game with tons to do. I don't normally play those games online but I sunk hundreds of hours into 3.

>Gears 4 has just about everyone whereas Gears 5 is just a random selection.
thats how gears 4 started, there was only like 10 characters at launch with 3-4 "skins" for each one
they pushed the esports shit and look boxes hard as fuck
dont skip 4 if you care at all about the story leading into 5

Honestly I read a few of the books but after 3 or just before 3 I fell off. I loved 3 though but Im glad they're getting more into all this background lore in the actual games now
Idk man. I feel like you can read about 4 and go to 5. 4 felt like a totally pointless game to me filled with robot enemies. If a player knows about the COG and how oppressive they are 4 just kind of shows that more to a person that knows less about the universe. But its a fun game, it just feels like 5 should have been the 4th game
