Is FF7 only "amazing" due to nostalgia?

Just finished the original, didn't touch the Remake yet. The underwhelming story, combat, characters really contrasted against how great the music was. 7's soundtrack is godtier but everything else really is objectively garbage. And it's not just because of its age either, I recently beat other (J)rpgs in the same era that have better gameplay and more charming characters. System Shock 1 came out 3 years prior and that game's actual roleplaying elements and atmosphere completely shit on all those other jrpgs too. I can appreciate older games but FF7 really seems like the epitome of "You've had to have played it when you were a kid".

How is the story underwhelming?

It's a downgrade from 6 in nearly every way

I played it recently and I liked it. So blow it out your ass.

oh it's another "shills have to shit on the original to damage control the remake" thread

It was an amazing game back then and it is still great today.

Clouds mental issues are pretty interesting, but overall the story is pretty shit. The music and direction/timing of the music is amazing, like Sephiroth saying out of my way, I'm going to see my mother, then the music kicks in. Things like that are fantastic.

Still. Shit gameplay and mediocre story overall. WEAPONS are fucking stupid.

My first 2 jrpgs were FF7 and Breath of Fire 3, always like BoF 3 more.

>actual roleplaying elements
if i wanted these i'd just play tabletop
trying to copy that in a video game would be such a waste of time

FF7 is heralded as the best jrpg of its era, so it's valid for me to criticize its roleplaying elements and compare them to other rpgs.
