Half-Life 2

I saw some of you motherfuckers dissed Half-Life 2. I can't believe what I read on this board. So, to be clear, Half-Life 2 is a monumental game. I replayed it this week, and it's amazing, even today. The gameplay is fun as hell, all the weapons are great, all the combat is excellent.

For those of you who say retarded shit like "This game is narrative first and shooter second," what the fuck is wrong with you? Would you die if you read a fucking novel? How on earth is Half-Life 2 more narrative than shooting? There are zero cutscenes until the very end, and the story is all dialogue and in-game exchanges; the only story there is is what happens directly to you or right next to you.

Also, "it didn't age well" is crap for morons. I played the "update" version with nicer graphics, and everything else just holds up more than fine.

If you think Half-Life 2 is shit or "not that good", then by all means direct me to superior games, as I cannot fucking wait to get my hands on a game that would be better than Half-Life 2.

I went from BioShock Infinite to Half-Life 2, and my reaction was this: "Woah, I forgot what gameplay was, like every developer did since 2004."

It's great, but I struggle to play it more than a hour a day. I dunno why but I find it really repetive in a way that doesn't click with me.

This is a meme I don't understand either.
HL2 was in Yas Forums top 10 goat in 2018, then last year it was shitposted to death as a 'tech demo'.
Apparently we were all under the spell up until 2019 and suddenly opened our eyes 15 years later.
They recently moved to HL1 as well (the early phase of shitposting was 'HL2 is terrible but HL1 was great').

I think the bottom is this: Yas Forums is literally invaded by very mentally ill people. The more they are, the more of their own they attract. They stick around because they like the familiarity. That's why none of their posts make any damn sense.

I can't fathom the mental issues one needs to have to think either HL is a walking simulator. They're both amazing games and a shitload of fun.

Meh, I disagree. 1 was great too, especially in context, but 2 is a lot more fun. I am considering buying the Black Mesa mod for 1, and will replay that, and we'll see if I change my mind, but I doubt I will.

The announcement of HL Alyx probably drew a lot of attention on previous Valve games, making them a prime target when they had been rather untouched by shitposting (Artifact was forgotten in a week including on Yas Forums).

ive heard a lot of people say half life 2's AI is dumber, which isnt true. theres a lot of sophistication to the combine that you dont notice on a regular playthrough, but thats just it. the hecu in half life 1 are simple, but their AI makes for interesting gameplay. especially at the start of the game, metrocops will just stand at point-blank range and take bullets to the face. HL1 also has a larger variety of enemies, and the infighting isnt entirely one-sided, where the combine on the rare occassions where they even get to fight antlions are totally btfo.

i also think that HL1's technological advancements were more understated, probably because it was shit like dynamic sfx. theres no physics puzzles or overlong boat segments to show off the pretty water. its not that i hate half life 2 or anything, but i feel like for every step it took forward, it took another 2 steps back. it was the same for the original half life, which is far from my favourite fps. shooters before it had much better gameplay, but it managed to revolutionise immersion so people are much quicker to forgive its drawbacks. I just think HL2 sacrificed too much for the sake technological and storytelling improvements

Infinite came out years before this recent bizarre shitpost war against HL2. If what you said was true HL2 wouldn't have been on all Yas Forums's list up to last year.
It would also be quite bizarre to dismiss an entire subgenre because there is a bad game in it. I get that you hate single player first person game emphasizing immersion but in that case why even bring Bioshock Infinite?
Games in that subgenre were good, and the release of Infinite made the them retroactively bad (but only six years later)?

In my experience, it's STILL superior to most other shooters these days.

That alone, I've never seen in other shooters. Everyone's always screaming stupid shit just so you know there's still a threat. The enemies have different ways of attacking you and use what is efficient, as opposed to other games where the enemies are just there and either come to you when they see you or they just mope around for no reason.

it's one of my most beloved games of all time, but the combat really isn't great. enemies are extremely retarded and very spongy, and it has a weak weapon selection
