The combat looked bad so I didn't bother pirating it. That's my story.

Exactly the same

I just can't get down with card games.

I barely tolerate poker.

What the H dude, poker is fun as shit. And I also don't like card videogames, although Chain of Memories was very pleasantly surprising on that front.

Will play it one day just due to the fact that it seems like a pseudo spiritual successor to Chrono Chross. I tried the first hour on an emulator and liked it but froze and never played it since.

why are you posting in this thread

Lots of fun. Honne should be making a sequel to this instead of making furniture for Animal Crossing.

Who is Honne?

Origins was better. I liked the great Mizuti though.

What a legend

It's fun if you can get into it. Combat is a little slow, though, especially compared to the prequel.

>art director - Chrono Cross/Baten Kaitos
this is part of why it feels like a spiritual successor to me, from what little I've seen it reminds me a lot of Cross

What do you want me to do man there's 591 Gamecube games and I don't have time to personally try them all out.

Great game, one of my favourites on the gamecube. Hate Bamco for not releasing the prequel in Europe.

Great gameplay with tons of sidecontent, trying to craft new cards in combat is such a weird but satisfying system, and the story has good beats and nice twists. Amazing soundtrack as well, and the visual design is on point too.

The only true downpoint is that the voiceactings sounds like all the actors shouting through a long tin pipe. Also, most of them are pretty bad.

agree with all your points
loved the game as a kid, replayed it a few years ago and still really enjoyed it.
For those that played the prequel - how does it compare? Worth playing?

Also I will say as a negative that it's near impossible to collect all the cards without a guide. Like how in the journey to Mira you perfectly do the ride to get all the cards you need except for literally one that you don't need to get from there so you have to miss than one and encounter the unique enemy so you can take a picture of it.

Or how you need to take 2 pics of Mizuti, differing in quality, during the one fight where she loses the mask.

What a legend indeed

The cards changing over time or making new ones by using certain combos was cool. Also I remember the big god boss just being a shitty frankenstein of other gods? I'd love to play it again, are the rights fucked or is there a possibility of a remake/hd thing?

You can fix that sound issue by turning off surround in the sound settings.

That makes it sound less like some of the exaggerated complaints yes, but the overall soundquality is still pretty poor.

The prequel is a must for sure.
The story is good and really ties well in the worldbuilding without feeling shoe horned.
The combat mechanic is greatly improved. Much more dynamic and satisfying to play, the strongest point of the prequel.
I think the original has better music and a fairy tale feeling that's kinda absent from origins, so in a way they complete each other.
If you like Baten Kaitos, play origins. It's a blast.

appreciate it, will do

Combat was great and had a nice way of ramping itself up the further you got into it.

>feeling gay
I can't be the only one who heard this

The final boss theme fucking slaps

Makes a hyped fight even more pumped
Though my overall favourite has got to be this:

Loves the feeling it evokes by using one of the main "sad" songs but with completely different instruments, making it sound foresty and ancient and mysterious.

>For those that played the prequel
Basically its like the devs left and trained in the maintains and came back and fixed everything wrong with the first game. Its pretty much the same game but improved on a ton of stuff, like a goddamn quest log so you can keep track of quests. Battles are much better now that you can actually pause the game during battle, if you're a consolefag this was the worse in the first game. Even the dub was an improvement.

The OST reminds me that Sakuraba isn't a hack

One of my favorite NGC game. Fantastic RPG. Loved the combat system, the wonderful environment, and the story wasn't actually too bad for once.

Also one of the best Sakuraba's OST. It's always either fantastic or autopilot with this guy.

never finished it, I stopped playing after you get the fisher dude

I've put tons and tons of hours into this game, but most of the newer attempts at replays have me quitting in Anuenue, fuck that boring ass island. Low point of the game.

Very tempted to emulate the prequel now, does it work well on dolphin or whatever?

I know right? There's really a huge difference when Sakuraba actually gives a fuck.

Love this one. remind me of that summer when I played the shit out of the game without a care.

Actually a good game, it looks really good on emulator.
>durr graphics
I played it on GC. Decent OST, interesting story, fun combat system. 8/10
Didn't like Origins.

I'd buy remasters of those 2 games if they ever release it.

>but most of the newer attempts at replays have me quitting in Anuenue
Yeah, I love both of the games but even I can agree that they can be a slow burn at times, I think its the same for a lot people. No harm in taking a long break during a playthrough.

I really liked this one. Love the sense of urgency in it and huge fag for the violins at 1:07.
