About 5 hours in and the story is really boring me. Seems so generic and predictable.
Everyone always tells me that this is the best ff story so I dont get it.
Does it get a lot better?
About 5 hours in and the story is really boring me. Seems so generic and predictable
>am I gonna like it
Who the fuck knows
That said, the rest is more of the same
FF7 original has the best story,
FF9 isnt bad but it doesnt get better
Play for the nice art /monsters/music
it's all just doujin bait OP
The first half is the best because it's so straightforward. Expect the usual secret clones/evil gods/dragon ball z bullshit towards the end, only completely out of nowhere.
>FF7 has the best story
user that "story" is the unholy hodgepodge of the 5 or 6 best plots they wrote during production. If you can't see that you don't read good.
>all the retconning
>the mindboggling shifts in tone/presentation
>the pointless "chase me" second half of the game
>the convoluted justification for plot points
>main character goes ricky retardo for a few hours
FF9 is a No-Burn game.
If you don't like it after the first hour, you won't like it. It doesn't change at all the whole way through.
FF6 is universally considered the best FF game in every regard, except for Combat which people tend to circlejerk FF12 for some reason
No, the story gets even worse and more nonsensical and the likeable characters get forgotten or given terrible conclusions to their acts and other awful characters join the party. Just drop it.
Never understood why so many people liked this one...buncha childlike crap filled with THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP cringeworthy moments at the end.
you don't understand why people like anything they like, do you user?
>FF6 & FF7 are the only games in the series where the most plot relevant character is the protagonist
Why the fuck are devs obsessed with making the actual protagonist a side character?
what about Cecil and Squall?
I've played through it very recently and most of your gripes are justified, but Sephiroth (I don't think he wasa good villain) and Cloud's PTSD was presented so well in my opinion. Maybe it's my ignorance but I can't remember a protagonist story like Cloud's.
FF8 is all about Rinoh
Nobody played FF4 so it doesn't count
The best part about FF stories is what isn't there. The settings aren't fleshed out well but they leave enough space for the individual to fill in the gap. In titles like DQ there is nothing except what is presented. In titles like Xeno' everything is carefully planned and there is an answer to every question on how the setting functions. But titles like FF leave room for imagination, and FF7's world is one of the better ones for that.

IX would have been a lot better if it just focused on the first few party members instead of constantly adding new useless characters
OP IX doesn't have a revolutionary story but I actually give a shit about it.
VIII, XII, XIII, and XV all have fucking awful stories that no one cares about
If you read all of the easter egg content under the mansion, get all the little dialogue bits, the story falls apart even more, and to me, it seems more apparent that they just sewed all of their loose ends together into a kind of frankenplot.
boy meets girl, even where the girl is a space alien princess that is super important to everyone, still leaves boy as the most relevant plot character.
honestly I think 9 is overrated as fuck. It was definitely developed by the B team because you know the A team was busy working on 10 after 8 was released. The characters aside from Vivi are completely forgettable and in some cases (Amarant) completely irrelevant. The music is definitely weaker than what's found in both 7 + 8.
Beyond that, the final boss is a literal who and feels completely unnecessary.
none of the ivalice protags are 'important'. they just do things. this is literally the function of the setting, to be the telling of the secret history of the world, about people no one remembers. I bet you can't even name the vagrant without looking up his dumb french name in a wiki.
you sound like the vagrant here user, with those niggardly opinions
It's worth it for a lovely main villian with a dick I'd gladly suck!
9 is such a meme, it's the blandest one since the NES games. For all the jank 8 is way more interesting and deserves less hate.
>the final boss is a literal who and feels completely unnecessary.
the final boss is completely thematic. the goal of the game isnt to beat up on individuals, because individuals have feelings and emotions, and violence begets violence, and all of that. the end of the game is just beating up the manifestation of the concept of genocide, war, and generational hatred.
everyone played 4 it's probably the most popular outside of 7 and 10
>9 is like the older FF
>and I hate it, you should play games like 8 that arent 'bland'
this is honestly the most glowing review that ff9 can possibly receive
Yup. Furfag, Steiner, Vivi and Dagnet are good enough.
Freya is at least interesting. Quina has some charm.
Eiko and Amarant may as well not even be in the game.
>deserves less hate
Absolutely.
>way more interesting
No.
The only things it did well were the pacing of the first half, much more character dialogues and ATE (FF7 would benefit a lot from this) and bigger cities with actual things happening in them.
is that a self portrait?
The appeal in FF9 really is Steiner and Vivi. The rest of the characters are okay, except for that big red faggot on the far right.
>ff6
Excuse me did we play different games?
It's literally the worst example of that.
>NOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST HAVE STRONG FRIENDSHIPS AND VALUE ONE ANOTHER IT'S A LAZY ANIME TROPE NOOOOO!!!!!!!!
I'd at least play till you get out of Lindblum, if you don't like it by then you probably won't like it ever.
Final Fantasy has you bringing balance to a world trapped in a time loop. The final boss is named chaos. You beat him up to stop the chaos and bring back harmony.
Maybe this series isnt for you?
I love how for all the shit Steiner gives to that faggot Zidane, he's still really nice to Vivi who is a good boy.
To be fair that's kinda because Matsuno is poorly suited for a JRPG writer. If you actually look at his strengths, such as focus on world building and plots less driven by character drama, he's far more aligned with western RPG writers.
If you're 10 years old, probably not. FF9 is about it's subtext. If you don't read books, you'll probably walk away from it not understanding why everone loves it.
Well, I see the FF9 apologists are out in full stride tonight.
The game had some interesting character and art designs, sold itself as going back to simple magic/crystal lore...ended up being typical anime garbage plot filled with corn.
You're completely correct. He produced a game on the 3DS, Crimson Shroud, that was basically just a d&d module.
>everone loves it
how embarrassing lmfao, you got marbles in your mouth user? Are you pic related?
the true ff game for literal faggots weeboos and aspergers
Final Fantasy has literally never been good. FF7 was a fluke.
This thwead is embawwassing. Wetawds.
>The game had some interesting character and art designs
Can't that be said of all Final Fantasies? Maybe it's time people admit FF has always sucked and the Japanese can't storytell for shit. Fuck JRPGs. Fuck anime. Like anime, this shit is for children and teenagers.
Fans need to read more books.
Oh my! someone caught me misspelling a word as I type to anons who I don't care about. Truly this is the most embarrassing of situations. I should just concede and leave.
that whole westaboo thing is really the primary appeal to his games, but I mean "westaboo" in a sense that he's a scholar of western history and applies it to his work.
yeah get out of here user
>Imagine falling for this meme in the year 2020
FF9 was never good. FF7 was GOAT, FF8 had a better world and setting and FF10 completely BTFO everything else. 9 was always the red-headed stepchild.
The only Final Fantasy game I can't remember anything about is 9 and it's not even my least favorite. Extremely unremarkable in every way, especially characterization.
>But titles like FF leave room for imagination
How come Vaati hasn't monetized his opinions on them yet then? CHECKMATE.
It was very few people's first FF and came out the every end of PS1's lifespan. Not to mention it wasn't like the previous two entries and was quickly overshadowed by FF10.
Is 8 actually that good?
Had some of the best charasterization. Vivi exploring death one aspect at a time and coming to terms with the fact that he is going to die within the year and for someone that mentally young. It was so heartfelt and genuine.
Also no hate, but I honestly can't remember FF5, gotta go replay it.
why do people jerk off 10 so much? it's not nearly as good as you make it out to be.
why do people like 7 so much? the story makes no fucking sense and the materia system makes the game braindead easy
It has a massive jump in visuals. Where there are visuals, there are normies. Still think FF10 is better than 2 and 8
>read more books
Why do retards always default to this? Books are a massive waste of time and will not develop a single worthwhile skillset. Reading books shouldn't even be mentioned in current year. There is a reason that only females read books.
This is actually a big part of why the remake's story is so shit. Things I imagined being cooler when they were vague turned to shit when you spelled everything out.
No but it is better than 9.
>The story makes no sense
>proceeds to call others braindead
It has 2 twists. 2. in the entire story. and they spell them out to you several times. Christ
