What is the best MMO to jump in with a couple friends level explore and have a good time?

Is FFXI any fun to level with friends in?
private or retail?

Nope play XIV

Already played, loved it, but not much more 2 do.

Just because you aren't having fun doing something doesn't mean there's nothing to do you retard

there is literally nothing to do in XIV after you have raided for the week

What is
>Crafting
>Gathering
>Fishing
>Leveling
>Fates
>Hunts
>Eureka
>Gold saucer
>Triple triad
>Chocobo racing
>Verminion
>Mahjong
>House decorating
>RP
>Glamour
>Collecting achievements
>Farming mounts and minions
Or you know. Replaying the raids and dungeons because they're fucking fun?

a list of fucking garbage that doesn't involve playing your actual class better achieved on second life
>eureka
not in this expansion lmao

>N-noooo! You can't play a game simply for fun! You need to make your item level higher!
>Stop replying the raid! You won't get any more loot!

ok tell me more about your amazing mmo that serves to function as a roleplaying chatroom

>Wtf? He's replaying a mission without a reward? Stop him! You can't just enjoy the gameplay!
The gameplay and combat is amazing. You just don't know what it feels like to rush into a pack of monstwrs, gunblade whirling into a dazzling array of area of effect attacks. Or to stand against some of the most iconic bosses in final fantasy history with a team of friends backing you up.

could try guild wars 2 since the base game is free pretty easy to play if your friends are autistic and hand grinding too

PSO2 comes out next month on PC.

God damn chill out dude

insufferable ffxiv faggot aside, after I got burned out and got my shiva clear + mount week 5 I have been playing Call of Duty Warzone and Escape from Tarkov. Both are very fun. I tried a few "fresh" mmos like Albion Online and its all garbage. mmo is a dying genre.

SWTOR

Nasomi is still plenty active and there is so much to explore for an organized group.
You are mentally ill.

I'm making my own Runescape-like MMO. I have an MVP that's working right now

XIV defense force is fucking pissed

Given FFXI Eden a go. It's pretty comfy once you get to party level. Just a heads up though. It's a chore to get anything done in that game so set aside some time. Well worth it.

put on a trip, you nigger shill
you blatantly fanboy over this game in every single thread
end your miserable life

Guild Wars. Although you'll need to start in Factions or Nightfall if you want to play with more than one other person for the early "tutorial" part of the game.

>all this cope
ffxiv is circle dodging the gape with faggot erp sprinkled in.

not me, but

>Crafting
maxed
>Gathering
maxed
>Fishing
maxed
>Leveling
maxed
>Fates
lol
>Hunts
ultra lol
>Eureka
:^)
>Gold saucer
who hasnt done all this by now?
>Triple triad
who hasnt done all this by now?
>Chocobo racing
who hasnt done all this by now?
>Verminion
lol
>Mahjong
no thanks, game sucks
>House decorating
already decor'd a large to my liking
>RP
the ONLY fun thing you've listed, but doesnt save the game from current mediocrity
>Glamour
ok? what everyone has done since forever?
>Collecting achievements
fag
>Farming mounts and minions
super fag, but ive probably got more than you do. where's your 1.0 Goobbue?

private server.
Nasomi and Eden are the most highly populated private servers if you want the classic, hardcore 2006 experience.
If you just want to quickly #yolo through the game for the story and missions then try a high rate exp server like Jova or Era or something where you can get max lvl and clear all the missions within a month or two.

Retail is a shadow of it's former self and has been redesigned to be a soloable solo-player experience to make people quit and play 14.
If you dont mind paying, it's only worth playing to get max lvl quickly and check out the story/missions.

>3 nations missions
Skippable if you want but worth doing at least for your home nation, need to get at least to rank 6 anyway to access....

>Zilart
good expansion, good story, good waifu. fairly short and can be breezed through in a day. Later on it intertwines with....

>Chains of Promathia
the true kino part of FFXI. Challenging boss fights, great cutscenes (9 hours of them), lots of good waifus, some pretty sick dungeon areas. Hands down the best Final Fantasy story of the whole FF series.
If you only want to do one thing in FFXI, it should be this.

>Aht Urghan
pretty solid story but the setting is completely cut off from the normal game's lore. It has a underage jailbait loli waifu which some people liked. Not much in the way of boss fights.

>Wings of the Goddess
this is where shit started to go off the rails and it becomes obvious that they'd fired their old writers and hired new ones.
it's ok in it's own right, but nowhere near the kino that Zilart or CoP was.

>everything after
avoid. everything mid-Wings of the Goddess and later is why the retail servers are dead now.

i'd suggest playing Nasomi desu, it's great fun with friends and Coronavirus has inflated the number of people playing lower levels currently. so getting started off wont be too tough

how popular is mahjong in FFXIV?

I like a lot of ideas in FFXIV, but I’m currently preferring wow because even coming close to main story of ffxiv again is making me dizzy.

both pservers and retail are neat in their own way
if you play retail play on asura, it's actually been pretty packed lately, ~3500 online

you didn't even list the real bait which is PotD solo

Retail's still pretty fun, played it with a few friends a couple years back
We all started fresh and had fun grinding/exploring together
Ended up leveling SCH and enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would
Stratagems are fun as fuck

2 people play it per data center, just like pvp. every side game is garbage that nobody bothers with past the initial week of "new content".

>What is the best MMO to jump in with a couple friends
NOT XI if you're not serious about putting in the time to learn
>level
Now that the game is a shadow of itself, sure you can get to 99 in a short time.
>explore
Sure, XI had some great zones, some others are dogshit
>and have a good time?
Explain what is this "good time" you speak off.

If you're thinking about jumping into XI as a casual player, kindly fuck off and go play XIV.

when does FFXIV get good, genuine question
last time I tried it I played all the way through the story (SB) and it was absolutely terrible

I even did the raids, beat the Savage Kefka stuff, but the raids were terrible. Zero investment and desire to get better by anyone

Just play retail, judging by the past few years of blog updates there's something large planned for this year, might as well integrate and learn the game now to be ready for it
Not like it's much to lose anyways, $15 a month is just $15 a month. Beats paying for a sub-quality MMO instead that you're not interested in.
Also, the story's pretty long. Lots and lots of content to go through, so it'll be decent to pickup and put it down as time passes to progress at your own pace. Still a neat experience.

SCH in XI is actually such a fucking cool job
>self SC with immanence
>MB with light helix with daybreak
>9999 dot ticks
>proceed to be a WHM or BLM

Disagree, WotG writing was based, it was Abyssea that fucked everything

Attached: lehko.jpg (843x434, 114.92K)

damn I can smell the rank 15 mythics on you

getting a chemist trust was pretty exciting, it has really unique mixing mechanics too, looking forward to getting chemist

It doesn't. If you didn't enjoy the gameplay loop from 1-70, it won't get better. The game just copy-pastes the same rotary patch cycle ad nauseam that drones lap clean from their plates and ask for more. You've already experienced all the game has to offer once you reached the end of Heavensward, since the base game isn't totally representative.

I always thought WotG was pretty great in terms of its story
A lot of fun fights and memorable chracters
What I didn't like was finding out that the Vanadiel the player is from is fake/an ideal Vanadiel
Like seriously what the fuck, what a dumb twist

Also people can rightfully hate on Abyssea all they want, but the storyline for it was great

There are no MMOs any more.

>playing an FF game when you don't enjoy the story
Should have dropped it after you finished Praetorium if you didn't like it

yeah all pservers of xi got story butcherced

XI would be great if you and your friends were really dedicated to playing it for a long time

bro?

unironically the Bethesda games, Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online

problem with WotG was it was good, but they released the missions so fucking slowly that by the time that they were halfway done no-one cared.
Also there was literally no worthwhile reward for completing the missions so there was no point.
People wanted overpowered Rings/earrings again or a difficult end-game area to fight bosses, but instead we waited 2-3 years of updates for WotG missions to deliver us basically nothing.

Heavensward is decent to great.
Then fucking nothing until Shadowniggers.

I shit you not.

Guild Wars 2, or Project Ascension
Both kind of let you just run in whatever direction is most interesting and kill shit.

Both deal with the out-leveling your friends problem in their own way.
GW2 by down-scaling according to the zone you're in, and Project Ascension by having a relatively quick leveling experience and incentivising alts

Neverwinter is pretty good for just dicking around, especially if you like Forgotten Realms stuff.

todd you forgot your pic

>WoW Classic & private servers
>Ragnarok and it's still bajillion private servers of varying versions and flavors
>XI retail and it's private servers
>Eve Online
>Runescape; both modern version and OSRS
>*cringe* FFXIV
>Everquest and p99
>Ultima Online
and thats without even looking into the hundreds of crappy WoW clones.

It's always good? Maybe you just don't like RPGs? It's one of if not the best Final Fantasy games ever released.
