Are there any major differences between this and the original, aside from the obvious graphics and voices?
Yakuza: Kiwami
kiwami lets you use all the fighting styles instead of one, majima everywhere, graphics, more nishki story
Given that the original is nigh unplayable yeah there's differences
I only played 0. Is there significantly less content because it was the first one?
Kiwami Is less a remake of 1 and more a 0 DLC that features the plot of Yakuza 1. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great game and my personal favorite Yakuza plot, but if you've played 0 it's just more of that .
The only difference is Majima is now a boss the player will encounter roughly every three minutes. Depending on how much you like Majima this is either hilarious or annoying.
Meant for
it doesn't have a really big side mission like real estate or cabaret and not quite as many sub stories as 0. its still a really fun game.
i didn't think it was annoying at all. when i played it mjaima everywhere had story locks too where if you encountered him so many times you would eventually get a phone mail from nishida saying he won't spawn anymore until you had to advance the plot.
I personally really liked it too, there were so many times I was genuinely caught off guard. Trying to buy a burger to restore my health and then seeing that smug snakeskin fuck trying to kill me was goddamn gold.
Can be really annoying if you're trying to grind out dragon style trying to force him to spawn in certain costumes though that's my biggest issue
>Depending on how much you like Majima this is either hilarious or annoying.
I know people hated it but I personally had a great time. I was still new to the franchise at the time, but the points where Majima's meant to appear from the original compared to his Majima Everywhere appearances are clear enough that I could tell where they tried to fit things and it didn't really bother me.
Plus it gave me some of the most ass-clenching moments in the series I've had.
>beat Majima on the street
>try to eat at Smile Burger to replenish health but get attacked by him
>walk out the streets afterwards
>he pops out of the fucking manhole
Great stuff. Also the new Nishiki backstory is great, though it's a shame they couldn't implement more scenes of Yuko especially since you only get the full context of their times in the orphanage in that outdated live-action prologue movie half which already got retconned by 0 and Kiwami's intro.
>Get that first fight
>Wipes the floor with me
>"Oh he's like shakedown, these homers made it sound like he was gonna be trouble"
>Walk into store to get HP items after that first bout
>He's in there
>"Oh..."
What do you mean? Played the original last year and it was a really fun time. Atmosphere was thick as fuck and the story was simple yet effective. Combat starts out as kinda clunky but when you get some new moves it becomes very enjoyable. That progression feels really nice.
Yakuza 0 > Kiwami > Kiwami 2 > The Rest
yeah there's less content but since it's the same engine there's some of the same minigames
The scene of kiryu telling Majima he won't fight him at the pocket racer stadium because it's a special place is the funniest moment in the entire series and you won't convince me otherwise
Kiwami was already on W10 when it released on PC
>run into Majima outside purgatory
>put your guard up
>he tells you to relax, not everything is always about you he's just here trying to smoke
You mean all the Yakuza0 styles, that was the game that introduced those extra styles.
What are you talking about? Sure the controls might feel a little stiff an the VO is trash but other than that it's still fun.
The original isn't unplayable by any means. It will feel dated if you started out with something like 0, but I emulated the first game back in 2016 and had a blast with it.
>when Majima serves Kiryu a drink, he talks about his reputation as the Lord of the Night during 0
>Kiryu gobbles it up, both the drink and the story
>Majima laughs at him for falling for cheap alcohol
>Kiryu thinks Majima was just BSing him the whole time, including his backstory
Genuinely keked.
>disco substory vs maiko in yakuza 0
i cant do it boys, i cant into rhythm games
The styles were worse in Kiwami. And Dragon was fucked in a stupid way
That's not even the worse one. Anyways, try to time it with the beats of the song.
Gameplay, controls and camera are significantly improved. The originals are fucking awful. Translation is 100 times better too.
And by translation i mean the written text. Voices are obvious.
Is there huge lag on OLED tvs or something? People suggested playing animal crossing docked for fishing the other day, and now I'm playing karaoke and it's like I need to press buttons just before the marker reaches them rather than right on them
Depends on the OLED, not an LG C9?
Wasted your money
LG C7
>Styles instead of just DoD, but DoD in Kiwami is both better and worse than 1's like Heat needed for double finishers and Tiger Drop requiring less Heat for more damage (But that's a balancing thing, and games past 2 had ridiculously lenient timings so it makes sense).
>Majima Everywhere system injects him into fighting you constantly during the course of the game when he only ever fought you two times during the entirety of the original.
>Majima Everywhere system also has DoD nerfed into the ground for a majority of the game unless you continually fight Majima and go out of your way to do his e-mail encounters.
>Majima encounter at the funeral (Good addition) and Majima encounter somewhere in the later chapters (Bad addition because it makes no sense and ruins story setup).
>New Nishiki cutscenes at the start of each chapter because he had a grand total of five cutscenes to him during the entirety of 1 and was basically nothing.
>Only one boss has the same moveset from 1, everyone else is aping styles from other games with the exception of the final boss.
Shindo basically just being yet another Tennin Rishin boss made me sad since he at least had a unique sword fighting style even if it was basic.
>The entire ring purchasing stuff before the Dojima stuff is brand new, never happened in 1.
>Obviously minigames are added in.
>Missables have been removed entirely.
You can't lock yourself out of multiple substories, you can't lock yourself out of the casino, and you can't miss locker keys.
>A couple new substories added because they consolidated some of the ones from 1.
It's enjoyable when you're getting unique encounters but once you've maxed it out you want Majima to stop fighting you and he never stops. There's no way to tell him to go away and you have to constantly exploit the Wandering Majima just to wander around safely unless you feel like Tiger Dropping him to get some freedom for another loading screen.
>Sent to die
Yakuza 0 flopped that hard on Xbone, huh?
Did 1 even have double finishers?
I think you're right actually, just checked my save and I don't have it so my bad. Might be thinking of 2 or 3 then.
The added story cutscenes with a younger Nishiki really add to the tragic feel of their lost friendship and his breakdown. The lack of these cutscenes would kill the drama as well. It is noticeably light in the substory content and Majima Everywhere starts getting tiresome after awhile. Majima Everywhere also takes some dramatic tension away, as story wise whenever Majima appears its usually a moment to take seriously. “Shit, it’s the big guns.” Now it’s just “I literally kicked your ass four times in a row about five minutes ago. Why should I care?”
It’s still a solid game though.
