There should have been a much bigger commitment from Atlus if they were adding a new party member, but instead they took the safe route because it was mentioned that they were worried about reception in interviews so instead we got a new party member who barely gets any time inside the party.

She's one of the few character's in the game that can take a joke and has a low key wild side. Not to mention she's easily one of the strongest willed out of the entire cast. Plus homely and humbled while also fucking loaded. On paper there's really no better deal in the game.

Nah that was Anne, who was literally designed to bounce off of Joker's design and colors. Kasumi was designed to look like a FeMC that stood equally to Joker except they didn't actually follow through on it in the story. It's why she looks like femJoker and her entire personality is a literal flip of Joker's dual persona (heh).

Similarly, the reason why Makoto has similar black/red color hues as Joker is because Soejima designed her opposite of Anne's design. The added blues and grays on her PT outfit were just thrown in to differentiate her enough from Joker.
