I know, but Final Fantasy is one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time. I expected this to be a little higher - at least 5 million at launch.

Considering that the game was in development for something like 8 years and pulled resources away from other teams, it definitely hasn't broken even. What's even worse is that we're at the end of a console generation, so there's a lot of shit they can't just reuse shit for the next game when it has to come out on PS5.
That's also assuming Square won't continue with their brand-name incompetence and internal mismanagement and that FF7R2 will be out before 2025.

FF7R's off to a good start but I highly doubt they'll be able to maintain that momentum.

15 came out on PS4/XB1 and eventually got ported to PC, mobile, switch, etc.
FF7R is PS4 exclusive* so they probably got a pretty big lump sum up-front, though it's likely that they needed that money just to finish the game after they had to scrap the first attempt that was outsourced to a chinese dev.

Game was phenomenal. Almost missed out on it because of you tranny enablers

It did. XV also did not came out during a global pandemic

Also, XV got cancelled story content, a fired director, and the in-house engine that it used sucked so hard that Square didn't use it for KH3 or VIIR

Thats interesting because I'm pretty sure Doom, Resident Evil, Call of Duty, Animal Crossing, and Final Fantasy were all good this year.
