I fired a gun once. Never again. The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don't know what you're doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.

I get the feeling people aren't firing off guns next to their ears with no protection intentionally.

I have a vascular tinnitus, which means it occurs suddenly for only a few seconds when your vein rubs against the inner ear then goes away. it's funny how shortly before it occurs, Ill hear some very faint static-like noise in the ear but I won't realize it until the tinnitus itself starts. The human body is weird.

I worked as a roadie for a laser lighting company between about age 19 and 24. Was around a LOT of loud music & pyro.

No problems with ringing except right after a big gig or being in the wrong place for too long. Always went away by day 2.

But it's catching up with now, age 45. Started noticing around 40, really faint, but it's constant and noticeable now. Doesn't affect my hearing or sleep (yet) but there's no such thing as silence anymore.

Oh well. I've got other more visible scars from the same period. Still totally worth it.

I usually have white noise in my room, but having to sleep during a power outage, the tinnitus is initially deafening, but after a little bit you get used to it. I'm an idiot who listens to his music way too loud, but I can't help it man. I just love hearing tiny details that you can't get at lower volumes and also just being fully encompassed by the music.
