you combine two of the same level to plus 1 it so 1+1=2 2+2=3 3+3=4, etc

I believe there's an average level available that is based on the last mission you cleared. Gear you buy works in this way as well, so you could very easily go through the entire game simply buying gear from the Blacksmith and be fully prepared. For forging specifically though, you can also increase the upper and lower limits via Patronage points spent on Muramasa.

Spearfall is really good. But if you have stability as your mystic art Piercing Rain shits out damage. I'd use it until you get triple threat which drops from toshiie

Chidori. But only use the second part on enemies yoki sized or bigger. It also shits out damage with Stability

Rainbow Ruse especially if you're B agi and lower. Very useful for quick escapes.
