Black ops 1 is the best non-WW2 Cod. Either Finest hour or Big red one is the best WW2 CoD, depending on if you want to fight on three fronts in three armies or if you want to follow a single units journey.

got this for free on steam, worth a playthrough of the campaign? Is it anywhere near as fun as the BO/MW campaigns?

Yes, you've no idea what you've missed.
The campaign is fucking rad. Super gory and has great war atmosphere. Only problem is that its missions are too short. You have to play on the second hardest difficulty to not breeze through the game, the hardest difficulty is shit and will blow up your ass in bits
